I think i really enjoyed this show, and the way it ended was indeed a little rushed but still it was great, quite surprising too :)

the second OVA was also great, makes you think
(click to show/hide)

seriously, sometimes I'm ashamed of being a human :P

especially in those situations we saw in the later eps of the show :)

all the girls were great.

This was the best show of 2010 that had a plot (I'm excluding random comedies and shows with no plot). This was not a K-ON! ripoff, This is not K-ON! goes to war or whatever, this is epic. The BluRays are a must get, the quality of the 1080p vistas is ... breathtaking. Great soundtrack and OP also.

I can agree for the most part, not sure sure about the plot side of things, but there was definite 'thread' that ran through the series and held it all together.

Last episode was pretty good and I can almost smell a second season in the wind.....

Second season would defintiely be nice, but what would it be on?

(click to show/hide)

Also I always lol'd at the whole, "k-on! at war" thing x,x

Although you have to admit, the art is shockingly similar, even though the two production companies are completely different IIRC

actually only Peace between Romania (or what it was) and their country was achieved, there are other countries that wage war as we speak, so Rio would probably take on the role of ambassador to work on the peaceful resolution, what would the girls at the fort do ? beats me.

There is also 'No Mans Land' out there, who knows what could come out of that place.

Is this going to be removed or what?  It's licensed.

all depends on the licensor, there are licensed anime on BBT, read the Wiki about which ones are being removed and which get to stay, you almost sounded there like annoyed, you really want anime gone from BBT tracker ?

Just saw the first three eps and I am VERY pleased I downloaded. are the OVAs worth getting?
There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.
But what that balance is, must depend only on you, nobody else.

yes, they tell a little bit more about their world, and a nice laugh in 7.5 is always nice ;)

though episode 13 (OVA2) gives more information about their world, and what is Rio's goal.

yeah that was funny, there are many lulz moments in this show, it seemed light hearted, but the final eps were pretty cool.

I love this show! I'm on episode 3, but I don't quite understand the setting

there's no spoilers I'm just talking about the setting

The plot appears to be in a timeline around the end of World War 2, but it doesn’t actually occur in a European country as I thought at first. It appears to be an alternate universe of sorts. The City looks European but I was quite surprised when they celebrated a festival that pretty much had Japanese origins.
(from http://sekainomei.wordpress.com/)

So if this is a Alternate universe, would the East have the same Asian landscape looks but with European traits? weird thought

The things that make the most sense would be the following in bold

"The main thing that stood out to me in Sora no Woto is the setting. Even by the end of the last episode, we still don’t get a thorough explanation of the world they live in besides the fact that a great war caused it to become the way it is in the story. The only clues we get are subtleties, like the Fire Maiden’s tale, the fact that organism don’t live in the oceans anymore, and that languages and country names are different (Seize resembles Spain, Helvetia is another name for Switzerland, and the Roman Empire’s language is German). Putting these and other hints about the setting together gives the impression that Sora no Woto perhaps takes place many centuries in the future, after some kind of catastrophic war reduced our once flourishing world into what it is in the series. And even after seeing the whole show, I still have the same question about the setting: does Sora no Woto take place in a fictional world, or does it take place in a hypothetical future of reality? I would have liked to know more of the history of Sora no Woto’s setting, but I also think the ambiguity of how it’s presented is fascinating." (blog quoted from Yumeka of http://animeyume.com)

Lost tech and mixed cultures.

" I continue to find myself enjoying how Sora no Woto mixes the tech from the “lost world” with the much simpler tech of the everyday. It’s a jarring contrast to see all the futuristic goodies popping out of the tank like its holographic combat displays then we see that the current world has to communicate via landline rotary dial phones and bugle calls. The current humans of Sora no Woto’s world know what they’ve lost, but they also know that if man once made it that knowledge maybe someday be reclaimed."by animewriter of http://animewriter.wordpress.com)

good theory of the setting
The Gentle Post-Apocalypse of “Sora no Woto”
http://animediet.net/reviews/anime-reviews/the-gentle-post-apocalypse-of-sora-no-woto

-------------------
(my ending thoughts)

All in all it makes me want to explore this place, I really want to learn more about this futuristic world?

but maybe this quote is true after-all?
"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."
Albert Einstein (1947)

He means because of the lethal power of nuclear weapons if anyone survives WW3, they will have been blown back to the stone age by the horrific might of our technology. So he is basically saying that the people involved in WW4 will be caveman, like This is consistent with a theory that has been developing regarding population and technology. It is clear from studies of human development that population growth is the greatest driver of technological progression. If the human population begins to decrease, and especially if a catastrophic event wipes out much of civilization, we will have lost the ability to use the technology we have accumulated to that point. people who knew how to make something might be might out with that knowledge

I think this is where the setting takes place, after a world war 3!

what do you guys think?

I think you are way off, although depending when that war took place, I didn't read the entire post as most of it is wall of text, seriously, too much thinking in one post.

I'll give you an answer in a spoiler tag so if you are still watching this show check it after you finished it, or now if you are not scared :)

I can understand not to read the whole post,  ;D  Its more like copy and paste of things I read off blogs the only real thing I posted was the ending part of that post. I knew it was in the distant future, but not sure how distant. Most of the stuff I bolded do support what you said though. I really wished they explained more about the background story in which they are in.
