ISP wierdness

(1/1)

rheffera:
I have an ADSL 2 connection and i was just capped.

However; it seems my ISP has only capped my download speed; not my upload speed. ( i can still upload 1mb / sec)

And because my upload isn't restricted; pages load more or less about the same speed as before i was capped.

So; Does your ISP do anything wierd like that?

NaRu:
I dont get capped at all so I wouldnt know

Lumiinous:
Nope, I just have cable internet, so any time some grandma down the street wants to check her e-mail, my speeds plummet something fierce.

It annoys me to no end seeing 300Kb/s, on several well seeded, private torrents and knowing I should be getting 2.6MB/s.

AceHigh:
Oh let me guess, you got a brand new DSL which is "super fast" as they would advertise it. Too bad that the old phone copper wire can't really hold it so you get a bunch of problems.

A friend of mine that works as support for DSL connection told me that some people get some sync problems between their house and the central and the only temporary solution that he can offer for it to work is to cap down the speed before they send out service. Could be the same in your case.

Seriously though, companies advertise awesome speeds for DSL, but if you really want to have something fast and stable, get a fiber connection.

rheffera:
Actually have had this DSL connection for a few years now because no ISP wants to give me cable. (some technical reason)

Its been pretty stable for me actually
