l didn't mean romance by that, but justy as Otonashi recovers his memory and Yurippe and Otonashi are the last ones, and he tells her something and she snaps and thinks hard and ... whatever, well see what happens when it happens.

Yeah, but it's Key, some romance at least is probably to be expected.

I really can't stand generic or amnesia characters, so I'm feeling your pain, erious.  That's the number one problem to shows like these, the protagonist is unimportant, he's only there to observe the interesting characters.

If he's really just a placeholder for learning the other chars and story, he shouldn't all of a sudden become a major player in the plot.  That's my two cents.

We wouldn't have the witty Kyon remarks if done otherwise.  Worked for Haruhi ;)

I don't consider his amnesia is quite so similar and annoying as most anime.  Well, maybe visual novels.  But that's KEY.  It's used so that we are put in his shoes.  Dropped into a crazy unknown world.  And it works by going through his perspective as he learns more of the people and the surroundings.  This is definitely more interesting than just laying it all out as a documentary.  Plus his returning memories will be an important part of the show and possibly leading to the solution.

The bad part is this series will only be 13 episodes.  Who here expects or wants a sequel?

after the episode and the Tenshi's room scenes l started thinking about his purpose in that world, altough they say it isn't something unusual to lose memories after waking up in that world but seing his reactions to the room l thought crossed my mind that he could have been placed there to help Tenshi, not Yurippe's group, just a thought tough, what do you guys make of that ?

I think Tenshi's not going to be their enemy for too long. Just a hunch.

Please, don't compare him with Kyon, he had a clear personality from the very first episode. Fuck, the main reason first episode of Haruhi(in broadcast order) was good was because of Kyon's personality ;)
Otonashit on the other hand doesn't have anything going for himself other then extremely generic tsukkomi, and his interactions with other characters were horribly bland, much more so than most of the previous Key protagonists'.
But again, I hope that's done on purpose to make his amnesia more obvious.

To be fair, Haruhi abused the amnesia cliche WAY harder than Angel Beats.  They used it 15,527 times, even.

I don't know if were trying to make joke or what, but you are aware that those are two completely different things? (not to mention Haruhi was actually a pretty damn original take on a Groundhog Day-type time loop in its own right)
Just asking to make sure.

Ah, you had me worried there for a second.
After spending too much time on the internet, I learned to ask before assuming that people couldn't possibly be that silly.

That's why everyone shouldn't take what people say on here so seriously.

But I have seen a fair bit of anime and amnesia doesn't seem to be overused to me.

He is like Kyon.  Or actually, Kyon is like every male lead in the KEY series  :P

They all had the habit of making witty remarks.  Wouldn't be KEY without them.

I agree.  Or maybe even 15,532 times more.

Some things will always be (over)used. You can't create an original story without putting in some unoriginal elements.

Maybe amnesia is used a lot, but I'm sure there are other things that are also used a lot and rarely has people complain (or at least not as viciously).

As for Angel Beats, it's slowly growing on me, but I don't think it's a masterpiece as of yet.

Episode 3 was what I needed to see. Great episode... and even better music. Too bad it looks like that's the end of it though :(

Just because the lead guitarist and singer
(click to show/hide)
doesn't mean that the other band members won't be inspired by her and continue the band.

One of the main reasons I think it will continue right now is the way that Jun Maeda talked about it in Angel Beats PV7. He said things that made it sound like music and performance sequences were going to be a central part of the series, so it would be strange if they stopped after only a handful of episodes.

Of course, I'm not sure if the band would be allowed to continue, given the way they basically battled the Teachers and Tenshi... Who knows, though.
Music scenes are great otaku pandering and a great way to sell extra insert song CDs and series Blurays. It would probably be in their own best interests to keep them around.

knowing Key they will throw some more  drama in an episode or two, now we have to cooldown after a member vanished, and all the stuf that happened, we will probably now face something lighter.
