It's not that they didn't have a lot to cover in the first episode but it has more to do with the fact that they were trying to explain the premise of the series and trying to cram in enough action to keep you interested.
(click to show/hide)The whole operation Tornado thing could have been done a little better. Watching this episode was almost like listening to somebody who didn't use spaces or conjunctions in their speech and while i enjoyed listening to what they had to say it sounded very jolty and unnatural. Although the whole rock concert and getting their meal tickets was cool and everything i feel like it was something that shouldn't have been there and had they taken it out while finding some way to keep that second showdown with Angel at the end the plot would have had more than enough time to catch a breather while still giving you a good idea of what's going on. The story was just way too busy at the moment to throw operation Tornado into the mix.
The problem the plot now faces is exactly what you said in your earlier post. It can't keep the same jolt like pacing and it really can't slow down ether or risk losing touch with it's audience. Now the plot pacing has to realign itself somehow without the viewer knowing about it which is not an easy feat once you already have a set pace and mindset for where the story is going.
