I really, really liked the way the backgrounds for Ponyo were done. They have a seemingly simple, crayony look, but are very rich in mood.

Neah,Ponyo's character designs are too simplistic,but also...they fit.

Not to deny that I do also like the character designs in Ponyo, I was talking about the film's backgrounds with reference to the topic at hand.

How would we describe this? Overly Moe scene?  Not quite sure... pretty new to the whole anime terminology.
I may have not explained it very well

(Though saying this is the only way anime can take advantage of their medium is doing stuff like this is pretty ignorant.  Ghost in the Shell and Ergo Proxy both do awesome jobs with their art styles and would fall in my "realistic" category)

Disgusted would be my discription. Like, WTF are you doing!?

Anyway, sometimes those fit, so I dont mid them to much when they do. However, If they had tried that in ergo proxy I would have deleted the anime.

I dont like thet character style, but the backgrounds are really good.
