The star itself is deified in nearly a hundred different ways with just as many names. Sirius is just a greco-roman designation that most likely descended from Egyptian astrology. Sirius is also fairly important in calculating precession.

correct, but one thing that sirius isnt is a synonym for serious.

...I also think baggy pants offer enough freedom. I would feel too exposed in a kilt. But this could just be the result of the society I have lived in so long. I can't see me looking anybit manly in a kilt.
