Typically when a fansub releases they will make a torrent file for every episode they release.
When they finished fansubbing they will release a torrent file with all episode in them, that is the batch torrent. Sometimes they will release v2's (better source, fixed spelling errors etc.) and they sometimes do so only in the batch file, hence we like to wait for batch files. Another reason to wait for batch files is to give the group a chance to release their own material before we duplicate the swarm here and drain theirs, but our official position is that we don't really care. We'll take it on our terms.
A patchfile is a file you can use to 'patch' (repair) broken files. It sometimes happens that a file gets corrupt somehow but not the entire file is bad, just a few bits and bytes, this can easily be repaired by such a patch file. For the precise implementation use Google. PAR (Parity) is a common patch format.
We do not allow patchfiles as torrents themselves have error correcting abilities, we assume the original files are correct.
