Author Topic: Anyone ever play the Digital Devil Saga (Read 2229 times)

so I was in play n trade the other day and they have Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2 there - priced out at about $34. Now most of the games I find around that price point are pretty rare finds - people just don't hawk them, and ussually good games (ie - Shadowhearts & some of the FF). Anyways I have never heard of this game, and was wondering if anyone has played it and whats their scoop. I did look it up on gameFAQs that all the reviews where pretty high.

I have the second one, but don't really want to touch it because I haven't found the first one yet (Didn't think to pick it up when I did a few years back :'()

It played a lot like SMT: Nocturne from the little bit of time I did put into DDS2.

Kinda feels like a demonic version of Final Fantasy in Hell... I'd suggest it (SMT games are usually always good ^_^)

I have the games, they are sitting on the shelf waiting to be played. I have heard some very good things about them. If you like the more old school Japanese rpgs you will probably enjoy these games.

They're definitely not your traditional RPGs. Very mature both in terms of content and storyline (For story, imagine Star Ocean: Till the End of Time meets Final Fantasy VI) The battle system is like Xenogears or Xenosaga (multiple battle forms) and the leveling system is similar to FFX's sphere grid, so if you enjoyed those, you'll find lots to like.

I'm probably going to start all over again since it's been so long since I played and I've forgotten so much of it.

Hmm... I wonder if they're going to come to the PSN store one of these days. I wanted to play FF9 but it wasn't there! ;_; Only FF8 was.

Yah I loved Star Ocean till the end of time, unfortunately haven't played FF VI yet, but of what I know of the story I think I would like it, and loved the FF X sphere grid. Had kinda hard time with the Xenosaga battle system, but I never really got a chance to get into it. Only played it for a bit at a friends house.

Overall it sounds like a good classic RPG (exactly what I have been looking for)

but ......
Sadly I went there to get it and they only had #2 and not the first one any more. Now I'm off to search the net for the first one. Got all excited about it

Final Fantasy games are hard to find used, at least in my town. Would be cool to see them on the PSN store (err at least once I get a PS3 it would be cool)

If you've got a good PC (At least a Core 2 or Athlon II clocked higher than 3Ghz), you could just download DDS1 and play it in PCSX2. The undubbed(hacked to use the Jpn voice track and Eng menus and subtitles) version is floating around out there. I own the game and still play it that way.

. Yah I have a Core 2 E8400 thats OC with a decent graphics card - built the system to be a budge gaming rig. Have to see if I can find a copy of it somewhere. Don't really care whether it has eng or jnp voices tho

) but I had one look at manuals to set it up and gave up. Is it worth the time? and is it really as hard as it looks at first glance?

Only hard part I had about seeing up PCSX2 was getting the BIOS from the PS2. I couldn't get mine from my PS2 so I found a pack of them on another a bt tracker and downloaded it. Dumped that into the BIOS folder in the PCSX2 program folder and I was set. Other than that it wasn't too bad.

But I did find out that the ppl who made DDS actually releases some new copies of it, and play n trade can order a copy. Have one on order brand new . Guy said they have some copies of both DDS 1 & 2 left. So if there is a play n trade in your area might want to give them a try.

Yeah I picked them up to when they did a reprint of the game titles. Picked up a few of them like these 2 and Shin Megami Nocturne. I havent played this series yet but the others from series I have tried I liked. I find its hard to play ps2 games now for me though since I have a big TV in my room and the ps2 doesnt have a wireless remote so Its not comfortable sitting close to the tv to play the games.

Yeah I pretty much only use my ps3 and 360 because I dont like to sit on top of my tv when I play games and the wireless stuff is nice. I wish they would release that software update they have for the ps3 to allow it to play ps2 games.

"Apparently" most of the PS3's cant physically play ps2 games. Either way they are never releasing a update. I'm just waiting to for sub and/or mkv support, I'm sick of transcoding everything I wanna watch on my huge HDTV and have half of it not work or be to big.

All I wanna to is press play and have it just Fucking Work!

If you have a pc and ps3 and they are networked could always try something like PS3 Media Server. I use that to watch anime from my computer on my tv thru my ps3 without having to convert it. Doesnt work for dual audio stuff unless default is set to japanese or you like the english dub but for everything else it works pretty good.
