Well yeah, anime planet is just the more popular, but anything that allows you to list and rate the anime you watch works.

Most people dont do them, so its a way to consolidate them into one area.
We have a recommendations topic(s) this is very similar, the difference being. You can tell me school rumble is a very good show. Which is true, but what if i really dont like comedy harems?
Theres no way to know if what i like is what you like. With a list, its very simple to see if you like the same genre/style of someone. Then see they have watched something you haven't which they liked. Odds will be much higher that you will really enjoy that show, then if someone just shoots a random rec. your way.

Because I started like a decade ago, school was a breeze, and I watch very little North American TV programming. If you average things out, it probably works out to be around the amount of time the average person watches TV.
