How do I increase my maximum download rate?

I fastest I can download anything is about 150 kB/s.  I've heard that there are people who can download megabytes a second.  So my question is how do I download faster?  Do I just need to buy a different modem that downloads faster?  I really don't know to much about networking.  Thanks in advance

how fast you can download depends on:
what kind of plan you have with your ISP
the speeds other people are uploading
If your client is set to less than unlimited download (i.e. uTorrent bandwidth allocation download limit)
and what you're doing with the internet while you download.
and how many things you're downloading at once.

So if I had like 300 seeds, they were all uploading, there were no leechers, it was set to unlimited download, and wasn't doing anything else with my internet, the only thing holding up my download is my ISP right?  So do ISP's have different plans where I pay more for faster downloading?  My dad is the one who pays for the internet.

But just the thought of him trying to convince his dad to spend more money so he can download anime faster makes me smile.

So it's possible with 8Mbit download. On the other hand I -just- have 1Mbit upload ^^

I think it works fine though :p
But ask your dad what your connection is
