An amusing calamity (I have a problem)
spinsane:
So, my ISP is blocking my internet. I'm getting some message that reads as follows:
--- Code: ---
Please be aware that Road Runner has received a report of unwanted Internet activity being
transmitted from a machine connected to the cable modem on your Road Runner Internet
connection. This violates the Road Runner AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) for your residential
account.
We are aware that the majority of such activity is caused by an infected or compromised
computer and is not intentional. However, due to the seriousness of the incident, we must
ask that action is taken to clean and secure your computers before your normal Internet
activity is resumed.
--- End code ---
All I have to do is give them a call and leave a message about what kind of action I took to resolve the issue. I can't really deduce what the problem is because I CAN'T ACCESS THE INTERNET, but for some reason, BakaBT and forums are not blocked.
Great... the closest I come to illegal activity is torrenting unlicensed anime (which is NOT illegal). so it's pretty fricken moronic that my entire internet is blocked EXCEPT for the one site that MIGHT be the gateway for my illegal activity. Genius!
So, could somebody do me a favor and check online to see if a program called "Digsby," when used with Facebook or Google chat services, raises a red flag for ISPs, specifically Road Runner? This is about the third message I've received from my ISP and I've done three different things to try and resolve the issue, but I keep getting blacklisted. My usage of Digsby directly corresponds with the messages, but seeing as I can only access BakaBT, it's kind of difficult for me to do any research (It's a shocker that I can access this website at all). I just need an inkling of evidence so that I can create a case to complain and possibly get a few hours of free service time.
Xyresic:
I googled
"Digsby" ISP problems Road Runner
and didn't really get anything.
Sorry =\
There were very remotely related stuff like "downloading speed (or was it seed? can't remember) was very low" on a forum topic, and the person had roadrunner & digsby installed, but that was pretty much it.

not sure if you realize this, but downloading anime is illegal unless its from the licensed provider.
All the anime on this site is in fact LICENSED, it is not however necesarilly licensed by a US company or it is licensed by one who doesnt care. The licenses are simply for the japanese companies who dont care because its free exposure for their products which would sell for less if there wasnt some kind of fansub gauging for the popularity of shows outside of japan.
All in all it is against international trademark laws to download these shows as your are downloading illegal reproductions but that typically is not an issue. Just because it is not an issue doesnt mean its not illegal.
TwEeD:
Are you sure it's because of downloading illegal content and not something like a Trojan/Rootkit? Seems the message is more geared towards having your box compromised than downloading illegal content
psyren:
Someone took over your PC, is using it to spam/DoS other people. That's my guess.
