Question with analog stereo output

(1/3) > >>

zorena86:
I recently ordered this cable that allows the PS3/Xbox360 (running HDMI) and the Wii to connect to a computer monitor via VGA. As you can see from the image below, the cable runs audio by analog stereo in which I do not have any speakers using these ports. The speakers I have for my computer is connected via USB, and I am also using the onboard sound card for the microphone. My question is, what method of connection would you recommend me use to get sound (possibly without having to purchase anything / not too pricey if needed)?

geoffreak:
RCA to 3.5mm

RCA extender

Look on Amazon for some cheap third party seller and you get any cable for around $3-4 or less after shipping.

Oh awesome, thanks a lot for the suggestion!

Do not lug this into a microphone port, you need to use a Line-In port. The microphone port is designed for electret microphones, so it:
1. is very sensitive, so the normal line level signal will overdrive it,
2. is mono,
3. outputs +5V DC on one of the "channels". Electret microphones need this, but you can fry the output of your device by giving it those 5V.

If your sound card does not have a line input then you can use your Hi-Fi amplifier or whatever (if you have such a system).

Your microphone jack is outdated, time to upgrade. My line-in and mic use the same jack.
