Sony is urghh!!!!
« on: January 12, 2010, 09:02:22 PM »
Sorry to say, but I've officially been ripped off by sony. I don't like them one bit anymore! alas, they removed a MUCH NEEDED driver to a 2004 laptop that i needed the wifi driver to fix it up. (VAIO VGN FE Series) CMON!! after a free 15 minute chat, they couldnt tell me ANYTHING what so ever! so i paid $25 for "MORE" time... wth? and they ended up saying "I couldnt be helped because its a older model"

CMON SONY!?! Even Hewlett Packard has model drivers, like from my desktop from 2001! 2004? OLD?! I feel completely disregarded as a customer, so now what? I have to pay $20 to order a RECOVERY CD that isnt even IN STOCK! wait 2 to 3 sum weeks? totally ridiculous.

Lets all have a moment of silence to Face palm sony, in their epic failure of driver support for older laptops.

Just because it has been removed from the website doesn't mean that it's gone for good. Try looking through archive.org to see if you can find it. Or try searching for the driver using google or that like.

I've generally avoided buying Sony products because they tend to up their price for the brand, like Apple. Try contacting Sony executive customer service and see if they can do anything about it.

Try to see if you can get the driver from the chipset manufacturer's website.
I would help you further, but I have to go to class now :x
In the meantime, post the model number of your notebook so we know what we're working with.

More important than the drivers is the call. I'm of the opinion that things break, but when they do, whats important is how its fixed. When tech support is like that, it really gets under my skin.

mhm, Gotta love those out-sourced tech support people too... dont know crap, and they bounce you between lines. happened when i needed my phone replaced. went through about 12 different people for 8 hours. then i finally asked to speak to manager. and got the $50 replacement handset fee waived, along with a newer model version of the phone -.-. they only do that to shut u up :/

I've never had that sort of luck. The worst thing that they can do is say that the fault lies else where when its obvious that its their product that fucked up.

"My monitor caught flame"
"Hmm, what brand of speakers do you have"
"...kipsch"
"ah, thats the problem. We've had many customer's whose speakers resulted in a short in the monitor thus causing they to catch fire, or in some cases even explode. You should feel lucky."

If you're using Windows, try "Windows Update"; they sometimes have drivers for some of the components.
Also, you should've gotten a recovery CD with the purchase of the laptop.
Try googling and see if you can find an ISO of that CD somewhere. Worth a try.

Happened with Netgear and HP xD lol my wifi wasnt connecting to a netgear router. called netgear, they directed me to hp without any regard to the issue, it was immediately "the issue is your laptop, contact hp"  contacted hp "your wlan settings are correct, it is an issue with the modem call netgear" back and forth back and forth :/ solution? bought new Linksys router

@ no luck on the ISO.

I've done the same, but I got a free fix. Maybe Sony America is an uber douche and Sony Canada is awesome? I have no idea. Though I recall once emailing Sony USA by accident and got a reply email like, "Umm, we can't help you. Contact Sony Canada (No info on Sony Canada either, but a quick google got me the info) This is for issues with Sony products in the USA. (Purchase in USA not required for grief. :P) So far? 1x mobo replacement (for free I might add save for personal drop off even though they would have sent a box for free to get it fixed) even though I later found out it was my own fault. I also have several aftermarket upgrades within my laptop but they didn't even bother to say anything about it or make an excuse as to trying to get out of the fix. (One was the HDD the other was the ram. Seriously what else can you really upgrade in a laptop? Not to mention I opened upt the damn thing myself, and that's not an issue?) They even cleaned out the whole laptop for free which was a total surprise.  And now, I know that I can get my laptop fixed officially by Sony for a very decent price (which I was prepared to pay due to "Sony horror stories"). Though it was sort of strange to drop off my laptop with no case and no cables (power cord etc.) and receive it back wrapped in saran wrap (even though I went to pick it up myself)

HP on the other hand... puts stickers on everydamnthingthatc anbeopenedorhasascr ewonitandifyoubreak thesealitwillvoidwa rranty... Dunno if the USA is the same for HP products.

Sony isn't bad... if you're not in the USA. I don't know why Sony USA is really douchey (Word?)

But yeah, Sony, you pay for style and in the rare case, function. Mine was function. It had the specs I needed and a weight that no other brand could match even remotely. (Sony vaio SZ series was much lighter and looked a damn lot nicer than the other 13.3" laptops when I bought mine at a price point of $1000 CAD over a year ago) The closest I got was the Toshiba portege which was 200 bucks less, but almost 80% more weight and specs that were lower. (lower grade processor and vid card)

my hp was $1,100 USD. it was the highest grade hp laptop on market at the time :/ (back when 2GB was MAX and 160gb in a laptop was alot) with upgrades this year on ram & cpu. 2.2ghz & 4GB cost an extra 200 :/ now hdd ><" which is $110 (w/ ship)
back in 07. Amazing how fast technology is @ getting better :x The VAIO on the otherhand, was a major mistake on my dads part.
he bought it FULL market price at launch might i add... there HAD to be something over 1.6ghz when that launched atleast... :x its funny though, his pc can handle stuff like CoD and mine cant. o_O

To a certain extent, it's due to the tech tossed in. While most cpus run around 2.0Ghz... which ones are the real proper "efficient ones"? Mine is a T7200 by which I think the end was T8900 or something like that. Most run T3400(Ranges 400-900 Cad) and "high end" run T6800(Over 1k Cad for quite a few). Centrinos currently sit at around 1100-1600 CAD and T8900 though rare, is around 1500 Cad in the models found.

SUs might have a lower Ghz rating... but they're actually quite smooth to a certain extent.

PC>Laptop.
I seriously can't handle one.Seems to slow,plus I hate that touchy thing.I also hate the monitor.In fact,I hate laptops.
And it's not just Sony that does that.No major company does too much for their clients.
Also,that's the tech market.Pay big sums,be the boss for...1month,then a new model,and you feel the jealousy&rage inside,+shame.

True... the only "win" factor is the portability. Which seems to be a big +
