Dragonball Online
« on: January 13, 2010, 04:55:49 PM »
Dragon Ball Online (ドラゴンボールオンライン, Doragon Bōru Onrain?, Korean: 드래곤볼 온라인) (officially abbreviated as DBO) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game being developed simultaneously in Japan and South Korea by NTL, set in the Dragon Ball universe, first introduced by the Dragon Ball Japanese manga in 1984. Dragon Ball Online takes place on Earth, 216 years after the events at the conclusion of the Dragon Ball manga series. A beta testing of Dragon Ball Online was initially announced to begin in South Korea during the summer of 2007 with a Japanese beta to soon follow,[2] but has been delayed and is currently slated for the second half of 2009. [3] In March 2009, it was announced that TBWA\Korea obtained the marketing rights for Dragon Ball Online and would run a full-scale marketing campaign from April to August 2009.[4]

Series creator Akira Toriyama has a great deal of creative control over the project, both contributing to and supervising the story and art design, including character and location arrangements.[5] It has been stated that Toriyama has been working on character designs for this project for the last five years.[3]

It seems that the Korean beta is out, though you can't make an account just now. The beta is limited to Korea, but there are people working on a proxy.

Here's a link to the, presumed, English unofficial site of the game: http://dbmmo.com/

However, you can download the client. It seems you need to have a specific account + catch the open beta testing periods.

For those wondering about an European/US release date: http://dbmmo.com/world-wide-release-date-plans/399.html

Right now Korean users are playing the open beta, see this thread to follow any news Korean users might post: http://dbmmo.com/Forum/announcements/2879-dragonball_online_open_beta_official_discussion_thread.html

Quote from: Story
Dragon Ball Online is set in Age 1000, exactly 216 years after Goku left the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai to train Uub in Age 784, in Dragon Ball Z. During this period time, a number of notable events have occurred, including the appearance of a Majin race, the Namekians taking refuge on Earth, the arrival of what appear to be Yardrats in the Southern Galaxy, and most recently, a gulf forming in time.

The conflict of the story behind Dragonball Online is fueled by a villainous organization known as the Dark Eye (闇の目玉 Yami no Medama), which is lead by a mysterious individual. The motives of the Dark Eye revolve around obtaining Goku's DNA through assimilating Frieza and the Red Ribbon Army's remnants, and hope to achieve their goals through time travel and mind control. Mind controlled victims of the Dark Eye are characterized by a green gem marked with an X that rests in their forehead.

The Dark Eye's meddling with time primarily includes attempting to alter the events that occurred during the manga in order to gain new recruits by way of mind control. As the player, you are encouraged to go back in time through leaks caused by the Dark Eye to preserve these events. The characters you play as are from an unknown time period who were unwillingly pulled into one of these time leaks and ends up in the Age 1000 with no possibility of return.

It is worth noting that Dragon Ball Online ignores the events of Dragon Ball GT, and even appears to contradict some aspects of the anime filler (for example, the Yardrats, who did not appear in the manga, look completely different in DBO and the Dragon Ball Z anime).

I've been, like, really looking forward to this game. I'm not a fan of MMORPG. Mostly because I get scared of the stories of people being sucked into the universes. But I just need to play this. I'm a huge Dragonball fan, mostly the manga, and not the TV series, though I am, as you can see, watching Dragonball Kai.

So according the article (or when I last read it a year ago), the Saiyan race is extinct. It is going to the hilarious when the DBZ fanboys get to the character creation screen and cannot make a Super Saiyen. Also, how the hell are they going to balance the races? Humans in the anime were barely able to survive getting breathed on by a villain by the end of the anime while the Majin are somewhere 2/3 of the way to unkillable.

I prefer to use the word 'Saiyajin' (サイヤ人). Since it's correct japanese, and keeps the morons from pronouncing it "SAY-IN"....

Which is absolutely incorrect.

Completely ignores the events of DBGT

Quoted for the win. I couldn't stand GT; Toriyama-sama had been trying to end things roughly since the Freiza/Freezer Saga.

I say it ended with the Cell Tournament and in the fact that Ojou-sama and Goku fought in a later tournament.
