What good does all that speed do you with a 250GB/month limit? With my 25/15 connection I can easily go over 1TB or more without even trying if I'm seeding just a few popular torrents.

Comcast is auto upgrading all buissness class 22Mbit lines to 50 in fiber optic area's if im correct. least that happened to me at my grandma's down here in miami. was paying $99.95 a month tho... exept! modem crashed for 3 days :P they got monkeys working here o.< My thoughts is it will be that way for awhile, theyre probally only doing it to make sure the network is stable. if not, TY Comcast for not bieng greedy.

Hey! i have family in Florida that works for comcast!

Bloody universities :P
If you are a student in one of the University dorms, exactly how much of that insane amount of bandwidth can you use? I know most don't allow torrents and stuff for that reason, but say you were getting something off microsoft servers or google servers. What would your download speed be?

we might need a screen shot of a FILE being downloading with the speed you are getting to believe if its really true you get that speed and not just because its a speed test

There is one thing wrong about these speed tests, people tend to test their connection speed with the nearest speedtest.net server possible, which unsurprisingly yields expected/positive results. For all we know, the person who is doing the test in Uni. Helsinki might not be able to get out of Finland, say to North America - where desired content is hosted - with that kind of speed.

I have an 8mbit adsl connection and without P2P activities I can't even saturate it.

Whether you are downloading a file from google or ms servers, it is highly possible that you would have to settle with annoying speeds even with that kind of a connection.

another test from same origin, apparently it was not just a one time peak.

There's a good chance the server is on your school's network.  A lot of speed test servers are hosted by schools because they tend to have ridiculous amounts of bandwidth.

The server is in the school...look at the ping....2ms....that s local networking there

This thread gave me the idea to test my speed. Since this ISP just got put into the complex several months ago.

Oh man. I now know my ISP bites the big one. I'm spending $70 a month for this piece of shit. Best download speed I can get with a torrent with a lot of seeders is 180KB/s. I'd change over to something else but this is the only ISP the apartment complex allows. Fucking Broadstar!  >:(

And not 5 minutes after I did the test, my internet went out and had to restart the modem.

[EDIT] After some research the company who supplies the internet for this complex (Broadstar) actually rents the signal from Grande Communications, and uses their lowest connection. But they supply it to us for $20-$30 more than the original price. ASSHOLES!

The place gets faster internet but who knows the place controls on the bandwidth since its sharing off one signal. If you have a phone line where you live you should consider DSL over that. The speeds will be faster for you

Had DSL which I got very good DL speeds with. The place was called Rioplex and was the original company that was only allowed in the complex, then they switched to these guys. And if I were to go with someone else they can terminate the lease and throw me out on my ass, so...

I'll hang in there until I move to Houston this summer.

If you look carefully, there are places in Houston where you can get FiOS.  Otherwise the best option is Comcast Business Class.  ATT's service here is absolutely terrible.

I'll keep that in mind. It just depends on what part of Houston I live in. Like my cousins live in Kingwood (a suburb of Houston) and get Kingwood Cable, which they have a 16Mb/s connection for $65.

Yeah, definitely stick with the northern suburbs, especially if you can live close to 45.  Katy is alright too, especially if you're close to 10.  290 is a nightmare to commute on, but it's easy to get out to Austin.  The north side of 290 is a lot nicer than the south side of 290, especially outside the 6/FM1960 belt.

Well, I'll most likely be moving to Spring, which is between US59 and I-45 on 1090. North Harris College (the college in spring) looks beautiful, and it's kinda hidden too which is nice.
