Bloody universities :P

If you are a student in one of the University dorms, exactly how much of that insane amount of bandwidth can you use? I know most don't allow torrents and stuff for that reason, but say you were getting something off microsoft servers or google servers. What would your download speed be?
NaRu:
we might need a screen shot of a FILE being downloading with the speed you are getting to believe if its really true you get that speed and not just because its a speed test
K7IA:
There is one thing wrong about these speed tests, people tend to test their connection speed with the nearest speedtest.net server possible, which unsurprisingly yields expected/positive results. For all we know, the person who is doing the test in Uni. Helsinki might not be able to get out of Finland, say to North America - where desired content is hosted - with that kind of speed.
I have an 8mbit adsl connection and without P2P activities I can't even saturate it.
Whether you are downloading a file from google or ms servers, it is highly possible that you would have to settle with annoying speeds even with that kind of a connection.
another test from same origin, apparently it was not just a one time peak.

There's a good chance the server is on your school's network. A lot of speed test servers are hosted by schools because they tend to have ridiculous amounts of bandwidth.
