Burn a DVD without cutting off subtitles (ConvertXtoDVD)

What's the best video option in ConvertXtoDVD to burn anime (with hardcoded subs) or movies (with hardcoded subs) without having them cut off in the actual video?  Would letterbox still be OK or no?

could you explain what exactly you are talking about with "cut off" subtitles in the video?
if the subtitles are hardsubs there should theoretically be no way for them to cut off without you cutting off the video itself (which would be pointless in the first place)

Just make sure to keep the aspect ratio at 4:3. Most dvd burning software will resize it for you if you have it set for 4:3 ratio.

ahh, so you are talking about overscan on old TVs?

the standard dvd resolutions are 720/704x480 for NTSC and 720/704x576 for PAL.
how to set the resolution and whether or not to encode the whole stuff letterboxed depends a lot on your dvd player and tv and of course whether or not your source is 16:9 or 4:3
for example i've run into 4:3 tvs that letterbox while others side-crop and again others stretch the exact same 16:9 source signal.

Thanks for the info.  I think I'll just use a couple DVDs and burn one at a time and see which options work the best.

I use convertxtodvd
but I had some issues with keeping the subtitles as an "optional" thing. . .specially in the toradora dvd's the translator notes are just randomly scribbled somewhere in the screen. . .and sometimes things just dont look right.

Yeah I had similar issues with persepolis.

It's odd because I used converttodvdx for YEARS and I never had an issue with the auto detect ratio function. Once I reinstalled it I had a HEAP of issues though

The trick is to go customize your prefrences and make SURE its letterboxed.

most anime series are wide screen, and by default converttodvdx has it at an auto-crop function instead of letterboxing.

I'm having a similar problem with Nero Vision and a 4:3 Ratio Anime (which of course shouldn't be letter boxed) I'm losing the Bottom and Top when it goes onto the DVD, which cuts off half of the subtitles.

The Preview views all show correctly when creating the Video_TS files. But something is happening between the previews and getting into my DVD player.

I hate losing the bottom and top of the screen, but maybe just offsetting the subtitles is an option, sadly I seem to have that option in my to-avi program, maybe somone could recommend one that does have that option?
