Help needed
« on: January 21, 2010, 11:07:38 PM »
So I got myself to use SMPlayer recently as my nice lovely beloved Light Alloy become to virus infected for my antivirus (avast) and now there is a little problem, not really a big one, but I would prefer not to have it.

So the problem - I am using 2 monitors and the darn video stops to show up when I put the darn SMPlayer on secondary monitor. The sound is still running and no hitching basically no problem with the sound, but the video is missing. And I like to use both monitors for working and its more convenient to have video running on secondary monitor and for some strange unexplainable reason I would also like to see what I am watching.
Never had problem like this with Light Alloy and now with zoom player or media classic, never had a problem like that with these two. And I will not stick to using them - as zoom player is a bitch with some video formats and classic one just annoy me.
Oh yeah and for some strange reason I am able to take screenshoots of video just by printing the whole screen, I know it is not supposed to be so. Had  problem like that before, but it got fixed by someone, but that was a long time ago and I don't remember how.....

What did I do wrong this time? How can I make SMPlayer show me video on both screens?

That's not really how viruses work, so you might want to work on fixing that problem first (or instead) of this one.

I don't have a license for the Light Alloy, it's cracked so that's how it can work. And I do not plan to buy that thing. I would rather prefer to fix this problem.

Have not looked into why but I can tell you that its not a virus.  I run dual monitors and Media player will not show the video portion of whats being played if its on the secondary monitor.  I think the video codex's have not figured out the dual monitor thing yet and only recognize the systems default monitor.

Oh, I know its not a virus giving the problem with the video, it's a virus corrupting my Light Alloy player .exe file and deleting it. And I have not seen a windows based program that can work without.exe file up till now. I know classic media player do not show the part of the video when it's moved from one monitor to another monitor. And I know that zoom player have no problem showing image while being on both monitors at the same time.  BUT as I was saying before - the other players DO show video on the secondary monitor with not a hint of problem, its the smplayer that does not do that.
as image sows from the top:
1. zoom player - work on both
2. mpc - shows image on that side of the monitor where the most of it windows is
3. smp - not seen on the image, but it does show image on the monitor on the left (with the start thing and icons) and does not show image on the right monitor

oh yeah and I do have vlc one, but I dont like the new version when all is merged together, I have lost my vlc ~7 version or what ever, when there was separate thing for vide on for all the play and so on buttons.

I guess this is some kind of glitch in smplayer >_<

I guess I need a new one now - any suggestions for a freeware player that works on both monitors?

I have my MPC-HC set to play on my monitor when in window mode, and set to play on my TV when in Fullscreen (which is accessible either by double clicking the playback image or the Alt-Enter key combo). I like it this way.

Also like I said before, it does dvd subtitles better than any other player I've seen out there. Just don't forget CCCP.

But then she did say:
classic one just annoy me.
Why is that anyways?

it annoys me for some strange reason and I hate how the playlist is placed and works. I mean do I really have to close it each god damn time I want full screen video and then after I have finished watching if I wan to change something, skip sopmething I must again go and set it on screen. Just annoying as I use playlist thing quite often. Well maybe I should just get a newer version and try it out for another while(nothing changed about the playlist thing). I like that it does have option to skip forth and back with the move of arrow keys, but it pauses each god damn time its done. And it also quits full screen mode almost each time I try to work on my second monitor. I do like to watch something and do something on the side, most of the time its not fully mind occupying just to watch something.
I have never been fully sure why I dislike this program as I know that it is the program that I use when everything else easy on the eyes, user friendly fails and its good, but still. I guess I should stop being so picky and just use what I can and forget my nice Light Alloy player I have been using for last 2-3 years and been really happy about it. I really miss the opinion to change volume with the mouse scroll with no need to look for the little sound thingy in the lover part of the player - its hard to see it from the place where I sit back and watch things and if you actually use that thingy down there you can never match the sound quite nicely its always to loud of to quiet. And it acts as I like, never quits the full mode when I use it, there is no annoying playlist thingy when I go into full screen mode, and no annoying poping up command line underneath when ever mouse cursor goes under to the the start line and you can access the start line while watching video in full screen, just a simple right click and everything is right where you need it. Heh, I miss my Light alloy ;(

2. I dont know what you doing but when I SCROLL mouse my vol is + - <-- its common O_o
3. For playlist You Ctrl + 7, add movies, Ctrl+7 - no big problem O_o
4. If moving mouse on bottom and menu popup then why you use mouse ? buy cheap remot control O_o

1. why should I if I could use other players, I just pointed out that I am used to it and to how it works and what I would like to find another software to use, not necessary but still. After all I did try to fix the problem with smplayer loosing image on secondary monitor, did I not?
2. No it does not work like that at least classic player does not react in any way to scrolling, smplayer skips through video back and forth when I scroll and the same goes for zoom player, so No its not a common knowledge for me in a player for it to act like that.
3. I will not by a wireless keyboard just to use one command to get and get rid of playlist, I have a mouse and I want to be able to operate with it
4. Have not heard about remount controls for typing into computer and opening different programs, I know of remote for winamp, but that's about it, not a gadget and so on person....... I do know about alt+tab combination, and it works quite fine, why should I buy anything for that???? That thing showing up is just annoying, it does not stop me from operating while watching stuff......

I like that it does have option to skip forth and back with the move of arrow keys, but it pauses each god damn time its done.
The spacebar is a few inches away from the arrow keys...

Depending on angle and so on that is too far. When lying in bed I can just reach the arrow keys, any further and I have to sit up.

I know it is, I just pointed out that its annoying and I do not understand why should it act like that

Redefine your hotkeys. ctrl+p works really well
set your playlist in the video window
volia
There's also various configurations you can make to your default setup that makes it easy to navigate through playlists and display video information initially

^ are you talking about classic player or some other player?

I mean the classic one have playlist already in video windows as a default setting, as it does not disaper when going into full mode, can I make it disappear my playing around with settings? If yes - how? When I aimlessly play around the settings I usually screw something up really bad.

My shitty old work computer used to not want to play video if I dragged my videos over to the second monitor. ("Working" at night FTW). I just dragged the media player window over to the other screen a little bit at a time (letting go of the mouse each time), and eventually Windows would figure its shit out and it would swap to working on the other monitor, and go black on the one that had been previous working. If I tried stretching the window across both monitors, Windows would eat itself.

Well the easiest way to do it is by clicking and dragging the playlist into the play window
make sure you've set the playlist to something convenient you can remember in options-> keys
Every time you want to open or close the playlist use the 'x" in the corner of the box in play window or press your hotkey

oh, thankies :)
Did not notice that drag and drop opinion was also there :D I am computer dumb :D Installing that thing is always so much more easier then actually using it :D
Then I guess I will stick with media classic as it shows image on both screens.

Now all I need is to make it stay on top all the time. Done and fine.

Thanks to all:) and a cookie for Onoz.

Try ctrl + arrow keys, they skip 5 seconds at a time though but don't pause. Can be changed in the options I think.
