Read the novel. It gives you a better understanding of the characters and the situations (including the two seasons that were out). I learned a lot from reading volumes 1, 2, and 3. Horo's behavior is described well enough to know who she really is and it also explains her thoughts and Lawrence's thoughts. Somethings I misjudged or didn't notice were in there. I'm almost done with 4 (which was never made into an anime and it pisses me off so much - volume 4 speaks more about Yoitsu and defines the relationships as to how Horo and Lawrence become closer together). Volume 5 is the second half of the second season and as for the rest, I'm not sure. If you get the first volume for the manga (not the novel) you will see the outline of the map.

Oh yea, volume 4 for the novel is just that important. Father Franz is an interesting priest and I might know how he really is connected to or maybe it's the monk they were pursing? I won't know until the end of volume 4. Another thing about this volume is it talks more about Horo's new enemy (no idea how the story will unfold, BUT her attitude and personality gets roughed up because of this bear - if you go back to the ending credits of season two and you see the big giant bear drawing, that's the one they intentionally put there ... for whatever freaking reason). Ilma's presence is more intimidating than Horo, too.

Ah, the endless teasing and awkward funny situations between Horo and Lawrence keeps making me laugh, lol. Volume 8 will release in a month or so, I've already pre-order it.

Oh shit, I just keep yapping and yapping. I also hate how this thread is made into a "question" when there is nothing to be confirmed about season 3 ...

Edit -- Oh yea one more thing, when Horo and Lawrence saw Elsa and Evan from their inn (it's facing the church if I recall correctly), Horo said one of the best parts to Lawrence and I'll never forget that! It makes you wonder why she gets very hyper around Lawrence in the second half of season 2 (volume 5). :P

2013 and still no 3rd season announcement. :-[

S&W is one of my favorite anime of all time so I really hope we get a 3rd season. Hopefully we get some news this year.

Haha. I think I'm going to make Spice and Wolf the first novel I try to read in Japanese. I wonder how much it will cost me to buy in Osaka.

I got it for about 600 or 700 yen. All the novels are cheap.
