Aren't like 80% of YLOD due to ventilation issues inside the unit due to dust which ticks off a highly sensitive heat sensor?

I think it has something to do with the coating/solder over the CPU and GPU wearing down, which causes it to overheat. There is a fix for it now, but I already purchased a slim so whatever. Had to take the whole fucking thing apart just to get my Batman AA disk back.

Actually I've heard YLOD can be for all sorts of issues. There's more than one issue that can trigger the light. It's a generic light.

YLOD is exactly the same thing as the XBox 360's RROD. It just means POST failure. It's triggered by anything that stops the system from booting.
Xtras:
I am pretty sure both RROD and YLOD are usually caused by ventilation issues. If something overheated, you are going to get that problem. However, on my old Xbox, there were days when the RROD would disappear the next day and not return for a few months.
As for overheating due to dust, I have accumulated the following tips:
1. Don't keep it on the floor.
2. Keep it vertical if possible
3. Don't leave it on for more than 5 hours a day.
4. Compressed Air is your friend
Anything else I can do short of opening up the case?
fohfoh:
Don't use a vacuum if you don't want to spray compressed air inside. It fucks up the fan alignment.
If you use for a longer period of time, don't idle PS3. Turn it off and turn it back on later (even if it's like 5-10 minutes).
