Opinions needed: Best Clannad release?
« on: January 24, 2010, 02:45:20 PM »
So I'd like to replace my SS-Eclipse TV rips with something a little nicer now that I've seen how much detail is lost in the TV version.

Out of all the current DVD rip Clannad releases, and preferably those using SS-Eclipse subs, which is probably the best? I have the CoalGirls release right now, and while it looks pretty good it uses ordered chapters (which makes me want to punch down skyscrapers). I can fix this, but it will take me a fair amount of time and effort and I don't want to waste that effort if it's a subpar release.

I would agree, but eh, there's a bit of a problem... Clannad hasn't been released on BD yet >_<

iindigo already mentioned he didn't want CG's release due to ordered chapters. The only are releases I know of are the upscaled version and RabbitForce's. (Edit: and ED's)

I'm also planning on upgrading my Eclipse's Clannad but I need to ask...

What's wrong with ordered chapters? Isn't it supposed to be a good thing 'cause it saves some space?

I think iindigo has a Mac and Mac users have no tool to play series with ordered chapters. At least to my knowledge that is the case.

I knew nothing of the outside world. I was just a frog in a well.

Correct. Fansub groups are now implementing a standard that is supported by a single piece of software and no others (Haali splitter). I personally find it a little silly, but I don't exactly run a fansub group, so I can't say much.

well l'll wait for the best BD release there will be out, but since they do such a great work wich you all seem to be so enthusiastic about, anyways, l'll wait patiently for BDs anyways, this show is too good to miss out on BDs. DVDs sold nicely.

Good luck with that considering

a.) The leader of Thora, adezonin, has been MIA for over a month
b.) When he gets back he's going to be over 100 episodes behind on encodes

Thora is not going to start --much less complete-- Clannad unless a miracle happens. CGi and Doki are both doing it so pick one of those.

On the topic of this thread -

At the present moment, there exist 4 versions. The Exiled Destiny version is the one the moderators thought of as the best quality. In my opinion the colors are a bit flat in areas and there's a good bit of banding, but I am not a moderator. The SS-Eclipse release is BS-i eyecancer, although Eclipse did a good encode on it in the end. The Coalgirls release is very halo filled, but has the most detail of any encode. Rabbit Force's encode isn't halo filled, but has a lot less details.

i am quite sure there is a mplayer developer build with ordered chapter support. i googled for about two month for some time for it and found two interesting sites. site1 site2. for site one use the new guide mentioned under the title, it should also support ordered chapter.

i'm not on a mac (yet?), only a normally windows user. so i can't confirm it. maybe someone could try it. i thought about buying a mac myself but can't afford it, if someone is curious why i searched for. i only wanted to find a solution for this problem for mac osx.

if someone tries it let me know of the outcome pls.  ;)

edit: if i ever get/can afford a mac and get ordered chapters to work i will write a detailed description with screenshots in the wiki and/or forum.
