Claymore DVD release
« on: January 24, 2010, 08:38:13 PM »
hmm, has anyone checked out the Funimation R1 Claymore DVD release? I netflixed it and found it pretty interesting so i went ahead and d.loaded it. I went for the DVD rips from eclipse and i think these look better than the DVDs i rented o_O. Is the Eclipse release R1 or R2? I remember watching the DVDs thinking the picture didn't look that great, i saw artifacting, and it wasn't very crisp at all. The dvd was all scratched up though and actually glitched out at one point so im not sure if it was just a bad disk. I hear that generally R2 releases tend to look a bit better than R1 releses, but the disk i had really did look pretty shitty. Especially in the really dark scenes

Is the funimation release just a bad transfer or was my disk tweaked? If i like this series i was planning on picking up the box set once the price goes down or i find it on sale. (funi seems to be way overpriced for a lot of their initial releases) I like supporting the industry.. but not if the friggin american release is inferior to the version i have on my hd, thats just stupid.

Hope this series turns out decent. The preview i had seen for it looked really dumb, but i found it kinda interesting when i actually watched it. At least so far up to episode 7. Though i find it weird they just switched to another character partway through and she named the kid with her the same name as the chick from the start

yeesh, if the funi release really is that bad looking i really gotta learn how to burn stuff to DVD's for junk like this. My externals are getting pretty full and getting comercial releases was helpign clear it out

Then you didn't pay attention.

I would wildly guess that Eclipse's DVDs are R12.

A little detective work shows that Eclipse's must be R2.

First Funimation R1 DVD release: 10-14-2008

Eclipse's last DVD-rip release: 10-30-2008; their first was 8-7-08

I'd always heard that Claymore had a "Berserk ending," so I never downloaded, rented, or bought it.

Claymore is one hell of a great show, except they change the plot at around episode 20ish, just so they could finish the TV series. I would recommend both manga/anime if you haven't seen yet.

The ending was seriously garbage.  I would watch the anime till like episode 20, then just read the manga.

Compared to the original work of course it is!

Watch the anime first before reading the manga. That way the ending would seem alright.

Then when you read the manga, you'll see how awesome the full fledged story really is.

tnx for the info guys *sigh* why are R2 dvds always so much better looking thatn R1 dvds? It makes me not wanna bother getting the DVDs when the version on my HD looks better >_< I should find out how to burn DVDs and say F it for stuff like this. Newy brings up a good point

has anyone actually seen the funi release? Im wondering if its as crappy looking as it seemed or if my disk was just bad. like i said it was scratched up and actually glitched at one point

as far as the show.. damn that sucks, im sick of terrible endings in shows lately. The probelm with the manga is that i think its still ongoing. And i cant remember if its on hiatus or not

Because they usually have only 1-3 eps per disc, instead of 4-7 like R1s. Not to mention they cost twice as much, too.

The manga is good, however, its been pretty lame lately. I'm on chapter 99 and it seems to be improving, but at around 94 I felt it took a bad turn. They started introducing awesome shit that seemed like it was going somewhere, and then stopped and starting something else that was awesome and again didn't fallow through. So far we have about 5 instances of bad-ass-ery built up.

i guess fewer epps per disk would = better quality, that makes sense.

Which has me worried about spice and wolf. I just got it in the mail and the entire series is on 2 friggin disks. I believe the versions on my HD are 720p. Im willing to bet these are gonna look much worse quality but even SD, having everything on 2 disks seems a bit much. Im not looking forward to poping these in the DVD player

I guess no ones checked out the funi Claymore release? I was really curious if it was really that bad or if my netflix disk was tweaked. I guess i wont know
