We all see these threads pop up about once a week. And its clear there are alot of people here that enjoy drawing, coloring, and creating wallpapers/sigs.

So I thought it would be good to have a single thread we can post our drawings or other designs for others to see, and critique, help us improve.

I will start things off by adding my own current project. The goal behind this one is to get better at Vexeling. Which basically is a blend of a vector based drawing, but then adding to it using raster or pixel layers on top of it to add detail. I am not good at this at all yet, and just started on the one so it is not nearly completed yet.

I am working on the hair, basically I plan to redo it completely the hair lines right now do not follow the flow of the hair, and look off.
The skin still needs more detail to set it above a standard vector.

My previous vectors are

I really liked this one, I think it came out really good considering the original.

always good to see someone who is decent at vectors. I can't tell you how many crappy anime vectors I have seen -_-

Vexeling looks pretty cool, I can't wait to see the finished product

Nice to see a thread finally. It tends to seep into every other thread. I might suggest not allowing sigs/avas in this thread though since there is a thread for that already. Very nice work on that Ranka vector BTW Jesta.

I just did one on Durarara a few weeks ago, more as practice in doing backgrounds. I liked the lineart, but the background could have been better.

@Aneroph- after your previous response in the other thread i scoped out your dA page.. out of curiosity. the Durarara lineart would make a worthy subject in the coloring contest. lines are clean i like it. your bg/coloring is very good as well.

@Jesta13- now were talking. if i had seen this first vector i wouldn't have posted the pen tutorial. the lines are very clean- my only concern is the lines on her right and left shoulder. i would smooth the line out a little more. perhaps removing one path on each. but seriously that's being crazy picky. i am impressed- very much. your vector looks better than the original and the bg is good. i would use that as a wallpaper, actually. as far as the scan goes how the artist drew the shadow around her nose area seems a little strange to me-- i don't think it looks natural. one thing- what is the purple thing behind her- hair or ears or ?

hmm vexeling- years back it meant a vectoring style that consists of a great many paths that are layered upon or around each other for shading affects. i have used it and always think of it this way.

Its funny, I took a screenshot of her in that exact scene just in case I ever thought about doing a vector of her.

You are definitely better then me at doing backgrounds. I would try adding a outline to the stairs though.

Macross frontier. Its a mecha drama/action series. It a really good soundtrack too. If you have not seen it i would highly suggest it.

When I did a search for Vexeling tuts, I came across a ton of them doing it with that method. So maybe the greater part of the community refers to it as that. I was given this term by one of the better designers at animepaper.net. He's been helping me over the last few wallpapers I've made.

Lol, great minds think alike?
The entire background was created using nothing more than the burn tool, smudge tool, and the gaussian blur filter. Burn tool + smudge tool is one of the greatest tool combos for quick backgrounding ever. I use Gimp though. Not sure if they exist in photoshop, or what the equivalent would be.

I used to draw a lot, mainly when I was a kid, but I've done a few as an younger adult. Here's the one I like the most:

But it's been maybe a year since I had the pencil out for real. Though I find myself drawing a bit in school when waiting for classes to begin.

I am no real artist. So I cant comment on those.

If you ever thought about lining them in photoshop then coloring them in, I could help.

But when it comes to actually drawing things, im am terrible at best heh.

That I was. Soon as my parents got cable I was hooked on Sailor Moon and Cardcaptors. I used to record episodes on VHS for years and draw from stills. I wish I still had the very first anime style image I ever drew. And I know that one was old (like the Cardcaptor one shown) because I drew it when I was in year 5 in Primary school- which would have made me around 10 years old. Me and my best friend back then used to spend hours drawing Sailor Moon images. We're both still big anime fans now actually, she has some of my DVDs.

And the shoes were worn once and now live in my wardrobe. I also did my old college bag, earning me the nickname of "Awesome manga girl" and a teeshirt but they're both tucked away now and I cba to get them out. I should do some more fabric art. I spent tonnes on the paints :/

It was an assignment, where we had to draw our hand. I thought I'd mix things up and make it weird. And yes, that is my hand.

I remember drawing hands... One day our teacher told us to draw our hands (grade 7 I think) and told us it was the hardest part to draw of the human body. I did some messing around and showed him a finished picture in about 2 minutes. The teacher was like "Wtf?"

Unfortunately I haven't drawn in years. Probably at least 4-5 years. Not to mention, I was never artsy. I just somehow was able to draw eyes and hands very well. I'm not a packrat really... so I really doubt I can find "proof" but you never know...
