no im not interested in cheating to get trophies, i want to backup my fucking data unlike my last ps3 that has semi died and i have lost 80% of all my saves =/

Saw this on reddit a couple of days ago. Hacker's blog here.

Not sure what will happen from now on, but Sony will probably (try to) patch the vulnerability. While it's cool and all that, I'd still hold the celebration back until the first effective software cracks appear.

Can't you transfer the HDD to a new PS3? Or is it locked to a certain PS3?

Can't you transfer the HDD to a new PS3? Or is it locked to a certain PS3?

Transfer the "saved" data would be the easiest way. I've done that easily with my PSP's memory card when we needed to restore the PS3.

everything i've read says that locked saves cannot be copy or transfered. Apprently someone said that transfering the ps3's hdd into another ps3 will auto format it, but i don't know if thats actually the case.

I can comfirm though that copying the locked saves don't work. Neither does the backup in system tools. Just tried both and my locked saves ain't budging =/

Also I heard you can copy all PS3 save and put them onto an USB flashdrive. All you need to do is an have an folder name PS3 in your USB.

The PS3 didn't really have anything in the mod side because no one could have made anything that could access the hardware. Sony did a great job preventing people on doing this. PS2 game sales drop alot because of the solderless mod or CD swap mod. Microsoft did to for the xbox. I was able to install a linux base OS on my xbox that looked like windows media center. In this I was able to install games onto the HDD and burn my own games. I never bought any games for the xbox.
