I too have CDs and DVDs that I burned a while ago (Elementary school... so... over 10 years?) That doesn't have rot but shitloads of scratches and they work fine.
I swear, rot only occurs if you store in a shitty way. Humidity of where you live probably has a big deal, as well as the humidity in your home. At least that's what I think. Also previous threads have discussed that the brand you use makes a huge difference as well. (Vertabim, Sony and Maxell? being the better ones I think)
Back on topic. I started burning at one point too... but after making like 4-5 data discs on 70 ep animes... I got tired and lazy. So currently I think I only have like 50 discs actually burned. I also burn OSTs from time to time too. When I get bored of them, I just give them to friends who I feel might enjoy the orchestral music.
