But I seriously think the above is going to have ventilation issues. (At least you won't freeze in dorms during the winter months...)

Last I checked (2005-2006) Alienware laptops were pretty bad considering the price and hardware. 2 of my friends had Alienware laptops. One of them had issues because the drivers that shipped installed and the drivers that came on the recovery disks were not the same and neither set had the correct drivers for a couple pieces of hardware. The other friend had had a piece of hardware fail (a RAM chip if I recall). He called in Dell and had them send a replacement part for him to install. Now the guy is tech savvy (builds his own desktops, is working on rebuilding an arcade cabinet from found parts, etc) but he had some issues with it. It was supposed to be fairly easy (instructions found online), but the instructions did not mention that the case would have thermal paste on just about everything. He took a look at it, decided that it was easier to live without the laptop for a week while he sent it to a Dell repair center than it would be to risk damaging the hardware with the mess that was in the case.

Now I realize that I have likely had other friends who had had Alienware PCs and it never came up, it is just that the two incidents where so unusual and both were the fault of the same manufacturer that it stuck in my mind.
