Had vundoo before. I googled it and tried quite a few of the removal tools. In the end i got rid of it. But i got error messages about missing dlls. I'd only recently installed vista then so I just deleted my log on and created a new one and that seemed to fix everything.

Btw what OS are you using?

kenshin-dono:
ya Vundo is proving to be a real pain in the ass. Im not really using it right now which sucks because its what i played most of my anime off of >_< I have been googling and checking various threads the past few days but for now i just stoped after my last scan set. It seemed to be clean then came back, im probably gonna have to do some kinda registry editing but i dont know how =P Im using XP btw

i posted my last scan set over on malware forums, hopefully they'll help out

Im thinking of just installing norton so i can get help on their forums, but i hear Vundo can actually use norton to screw your computer up more o_O Im not sure if thats true but i saw something on wiki and a few other posts concerning it. Plus i would think i need a clean platform to install it

There are some vundofix programs out there but theyre all really old, like 2005 or so so i doubt theyre any good.

I actually did have one question im curious if anyone knows. Im a bit concerned that my externals may have some form of the virus lurking on them. Scans are coming up clean at the moment, but im not sure if anythings hiding there. IS there any way to make sure theyr'e clean? I have been doing scans on my primary external back to back with mymain C drive since it was on a lot when i had the virus, id like to make sure theyre all clean.

i found this for suposedly disabling autorun
http://research.pandasecurity.com/Panda-USB-and-AutoRun-Vaccine/

and disabled autoplay through this method
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/disable-autoplay-of-audio-cds-and-usb-drives/

but  The panda program doesn't say its really safe for NTSF format (in beta) which my externals are so im not using it on those.

*sigh* id like to make sure the externals are clean because im gonna be pissed if i cant get rid of this, take hours to back everything up to the externals, reformat, and then get the virus again because something was hiding on the external on the autorun.inf file or something.

Im probably gonna leave it be this weekend and try to get a reply on malware forums. If that doesn';t work after a bump or so i may try the norton thing, im just worried that its vulnerable to Vundo.

Christ if i get this sorted out im never googling torrents again. Sticking to stuff i know or saying F it.

i think this is what i followed to remove vundo. But i was using vista.
It may be worth a try

As for the USB's. If you have decent anti-virus scanner it should pick up stuff on the USB. You could also manually search for odd files/folders.

kenshin-dono:
ya, tnx. im pretty sure i got it taken care of now. I got some help on the malwarebytes forum.

funny thing is after all that i didn't have to reinstall the os, and i almost wound up having to do so because windows is so lame =P I was updating windows and not paying attention. I accidently downloaded windows genuine advantate; which i view as friggin spyware honestly. I looked online and theres no real way to remove it other than some manual registry editing and stuff that i wasn't confortable with. So i knocked back a system restore to after the virus was fixed but before i updated that and i wound up with some problems with autoupdate not updating right. It wouldn't install programs right untill i did some searching and tweaking. Then there was one persistant file; KB967715, that just wouldn't' install right >_< that took a bunch of searching and various tweaks but i *think* its finally working right. I was going to be pissed if i wound up having to reinstall windows because of the stupid updater

now to just use it for the next day or 2 heavily to make sure its fixed. I wasn't thrilled with the system restore thing though. Im sure i got a buncha messed up files on my system now

i swear im getting a mac next time
