Apple iPad launch

I've had people defending it and saying that it's perfect for college students that don't have to lug around a ton of books anymore.

Dude, all through college we've done nothing but documentation, Documentation, *DOCUMENTATION*. How the heck are you supposed to do your reports on an ipad?! When viewing the screen at the optimal angle, your can't type, when typing, you have to lay it flat with you craning your head over it.

If you're gonna say something like "That's what your desktop is for". Dude, i've been a student, $500.00 is nothing to sneeze at! For that $500.00 i can get a touchscreen netbook/tablet that has the same portability, keyboardless interface and all the ports i'll ever need.

(Oh... and it can run uTorrent)

I think the reason for all the hype is that it's consistently getting good reviews, but the reviewers only look at how well it does what it does. The problem is that that's not that much and nobody knows who's actually going to find it useful. It can't run professional programs for business or design and the lack of Flash and any serious hardware kills a lot of entertainment uses. Nobody "needs" it and any useful functions it has are shared by real tablets, the iphone or itouch, or other media players for far cheaper. It's a fashion accessory.

My sis wants one.  She lives on the message boards and does it mostly at work.  She uses her iPhone and has long complained that she wished the screen was bigger, constantly having to zoom in.   But doesn't want to lug a laptop around, though I personally think the iPad would not be less cumbersome than a netbook.

I could explain the technical aspects of it and other options, comparing price and performance ratio; but it will just end up putting her to sleep.  I know she'll end up getting it soon, and will be quite happy about it.  So I don't even bother.  Remembering that it's not for me, and it's simplicity of getting what she wants done with the least amount of hassle makes it perfect for her.

As the iPad is now I will not buy one. It just lacks one important program to be truly useful - Microsoft Office. I know Apple Released iWork for it but iWork is a piece of shit, and thats coming from a Mac user. If Microsoft released a version of Mac Office for this then I will look at it again.

I do like the rumored sales figures, should be good for the stock price next week.

Whats wrong with iwork? I only use it lightly, but I've never had a problem :S
