@iindigo: You may hate the kindle, but that thing is popular for the same reason the iPhones and iTouches are popular. The "super selection of media yum yum." (AKA: Book "Apps" - To speak in Apple language) even though it's not compatible worth shit for anything else. If you want compatibility, go Sony or Barnes and Noble has a new one coming out I think (if it's not already out)

True enough. I guess I'm just wanting the iPad to be more directed at college students than kindles and such. To me, paying $500 once is worth never having to buy severely overpriced (I'm sorry, but not a single book on this planet is truly worth $100), heavy-ass, only-used-one-semester textbooks again.

To me, it's still not really worth it. Why? I've seen some of those "online textbooks". They have about the same "userfriendlyness" as html from 1994, load slow, fucked up "paths" (imagine clicking a few times, realizing you're in the wrong chapter, no option to click to go to the TOC, click back a few times, click yes to "must retransmit information", and if you read slow, log back into the damn website) Not to mention these cost about 40-60 bucks to access by which it's like buying a console and spending like 10x the value of the console in games and accessories over the life of the thing.
Seriously, most online copies are fucked up. And they won't release the draft copies of the textbook. (Fuck you money grubbing, royalty sucking authors)

It will run the iPhone OS but you can not make phone calls with it (well at least not on GSM infrastructure :) )
They might have app compatibility between the two devices in mind.
There will be iPads with 3G support, it is probably for only internet connectivity. Obviously they want everyone to have an iPad accompanying their iPhones which is not unlikely.

Taking into account the limited functionality and restraints on the device, people who got used to a PC (like me) won't prefer to buy one. But if it can gain enough momentum and popularity, major players might give it a shot and we might end up with a device that is better than this.
This is definitely not a laptop with a twisted monitor then called a tablet, this is immensely light and portable. While a laptop seems mobile, it is not and this device will redefine mobility.
A truly lightweight device equipped with wireless connectivity and necessary processing and storage power, plus wireless recharge-ability is what I am waiting for. Then we will be able to do more in our daily lives.

On another note... due to its size and touch screen interface with smooth sides... an "ero game" app might go wrong very easily. ;)
