True enough. Even taking the color correctness out of the factor, though, this thing is incredibly sharp and vibrant. Light from LEDs feels easier on the eyes, too.

How long do you figure it will be before old-style florescent backlighting is phased out?

The LED screens now are just a transition technology of something even better to come out. Maybe within a year or 2 a new LED screen will come out.

The Mac Pro line is just sad now, though. $2,200 for the base model with no monitor, and the specs are WORSE than that of the $2,000 27" i7 iMac. Who the hell is going to pay for that?

I think they'll update it in June.

If you try to buy a display like the one in the iMac, the closest you can get is a model that Dell is releasing soon (I think it uses the exact same panel) and sells for $1,000.

If you would have more knowledge about manufacturers (something mac users are not), you would not mention Dell, but NEC. Any designer with self respect would have nothing else but a NEC screen. NEC screens that are equivalent of Mac's screens cost as much, but if you are really a professional and money is of no issue, you will buy a monitor of NEC SpectraView series:

i agree that dell is fail, but please don't forget EIZO. they already produced amazing screens long before apple even noticed their screens are shit (and still are only decent)

AceHigh:
Of course EIZO is good, I lost count of how many times I have seen a "Should i buy NEC or EIZO?" threads on other tech forums.
