not to mention that 4-5 years down the road when i decide i need a new computer to go with the newer software that needs more power for my graphics design needs, I CAN USE THE SAME MONITOR I PAID 1200 OR 1500$ FOR and just pay 1000 or so for a new pc

If you try to buy a display like the one in the iMac, the closest you can get is a model that Dell is releasing soon (I think it uses the exact same panel) and sells for $1,000.

If you would have more knowledge about manufacturers (something mac users are not), you would not mention Dell, but NEC. Any designer with self respect would have nothing else but a NEC screen. NEC screens that are equivalent of Mac's screens cost as much, but if you are really a professional and money is of no issue, you will buy a monitor of NEC SpectraView series:

Keep in mind that I am also a college student. I have some money, but not THAT much money. Besides that, were you aware that the panel used in the 27" iMac is in fact manufactured by NEC?

You haven't been paying very much attention. The display in the 27" iMac can be used for other devices through a port in the back of the machine.

HA! You took the bait.... ahem...
Yes I know that Apple uses NEC manufactured screens, but I also know that those screens are not the best ones that NEC makes. Unlike a pc user, mac fanboys don't have as many choices of quality screens as people who choose between NEC or EIZO.

Actually, I do... if I wanted to, I could buy one of said displays and hook it up with my iMac in a dual-screen configuration. Same goes for any other Mac user, ranging from plastic Macbook to Mac Pro. I wouldn't mind doing it, either. It just wouldn't be the wisest way to spend leftover college funds :P

You know that the next phrase s going to be justification about how the screen is high quality but not highest quality due to the fact of a "practicalitys sake".
