The number which best completes the sequence below is 2 9 5 13 10 19 17 ?

<< < (4/4)

wow that weird you came up with a solution that works, but isn't what I had.

For the second one I did it like this

2*3 =6
6*7 = 42
42*43 = 1806
1806*1807 = 3263442

the pattern is +8 root +5
1+8=9

3+5=8
8+8=16

4+5=9
9+8=172 6 42 1806 3263442

pattern: current number + current number squared

lol i guess i put too much effort in it..

Hmm I thought these patterns had to be solvable with the same formula for every number. For example Xn = X(n-1) + (X(n-1))^2 for the second one.

Certain patterns are exactly the same even if the formula looks different.

i guess for the first one there won't be a formula :)

ok a stupid one: what's next?
3 1 4 1 5
(click to show/hide)it is 9 (pi). whatever.. ::)

love those math problems.   post up some really challenging ones.  :)
