and yet you just posted a week ago about how you fucked up a processor because you tried to intel an AMD chip in and INTEL chipset and didnt realize it till you forced it in and ruined the chip

Well, his fail post a week ago had more to do with the fact that he saw an AM3 mobo that said "Supported CPU: Phenom II X4 / Phenom II X3" and went ahead and picked out an AM2+ Phenom II X4 without checking whether the sockets matched... but yeah.

ok i think you missed it when i said the mobo was amd and the processor was amd. . .

yes that was indeed the problem. . .my bad as i said. . .i was unaware of those things (since till then i had never assembled AMD based pc´s)

What ever possessed you to force a CPU into its socket?

It didn't fit?

my mistake i thought i had seen that u forced amd chip in intel socket either way the point remains valid

It didn't fit?
If it doesn't fit, you're not applying enough force. Sufficient force makes all CPUs fit all sockets! (User satisfaction not guaranteed)

Alternatively, apply a dremel/blade cutter until it fits.

Wow, how timely. Best Of Tom’s Hardware: Beginner’s Guide To Motherboard Selection.

I quote:
Quote
A somewhat common worst-case scenario for first-time builders is to spend hundreds of dollars in parts, only to find that some won’t fit together. Less common is when parts that fit together don't work together. But the most frequent problem new builders face is an inappropriate component selection that limits the performance of their high-priced build, making it feel like a less-expensive machine. We'll try to help you avoid that awkward moment, when you realize this board won't fit into that enclosure.

That article may be written for first-timers, but I believe some of us *ahem* apparent "old-timers" can pick up some useful advice too.

ROFL. Now that, was good  :D

But even if you are incredibly lazy, please just read Lifehacker's guide at the very least. It is very condensed, and would probably amount to maybe 3 pages if you printed the entire thing.

well as I mentioned in the other thread. . .
I was unaware since it was my first AMD. . . soo. . .my first time with AMD wasnt love. . .it was just raw lustfull. . .amm installation :P

yeah well I put the socket in at it did sort of fit (but it was wiggily). . .I didnt like force a sqare into a round hole. . .it was more like passing a square trough a rectangular hole. . . I saw the socket on the motherboard. . .it looked similar to that of the socket (you know. . 4 little things arranged in a somewhat similar matter)
and well as I said the motherboard was "Phenom II x4 compatible" and i had a "phenom II x4" cpu. . .therefore that happened.

Sounded more like rape if you ask me.

That poor CPU. You're a monster! :'(

Hey, give him a break. We've all forced a CPU at one time....right?  ;D

A friend and I were installing a 500mhz AMD K6-2 years ago, and we accidentally the whole thing. Bent half of the pins.

Thank god the pins on those old processors were so big, because I had to bend each one back into place with a screwdriver. I couldn't imagine doing that with some of the newer sockets. I'd just drill a hole through it and turn it into Geek Bling.

Mine went in just right, not much force needed. AMD's should slide in pretty smoothly as well, from past experience with Athlon X2s.

call me weird but ive never forced a processor into an incorrect socket but i also took time when purchasing my parts because i paid for them and didnt want to fuck it up.

Yeah when i got the right processor it went smoothly . . .thing is as mentioned
intel is easy, big square in the middle. . .no mazes or weird shapes.

AMD has this 4 little spots randomly (looks like it) just spread around. . . they're not even symmetric. . .altho thats good cause you cant miss the shape . . .the only thing I missed is that there were 2 extra pins. . .that ended up fkin everything up.

AMD made it that way so that people won't stupidly force the processor into a socket.

You're lucky the processor has heat spreaders on it. At least you won't have to worry about cracking the processor core when you attach the heatsink.

I always google things when I need to apply force. If it doesn't go in softly... it might not actually fit. :O LE SHOCKE!

socket AM2

Socket AM3

you have to admit they look exactly the same if you dont pay like really close attention.

and say. . .you're used to intel's easy simple way of installing processors(align golden arrow and thats it). . .so you think "ahh motherboard says Phenom II x4" I have a phenom II x4. . .sockets look pretty much the same. . .voila!

You know... I only install Hdds, Ram, PCI cards, and Vid cards.... Processors I make my friend in the air force do because I have been known to threaten my computer with hammers if it don't work the way I want it to. Shoulda seen what happened to the speakers with the sledgehammer
