AMD confusion (and nonchalant intel talk)

lol, i actually attached an old stick of 72 pin SIMM RAM to my keys that i took from a 15-20 year old computer. I get stopped every once in a while by people inquiring about my unique keychain. ^_^
I have more trouble putting RAM in than i do CPUs (especially when its LGA 1156 0r 1366). But i guess I'm like MGZ and look over my parts very carefully before i buy them.

you have to admit they look exactly the same if you dont pay like really close attention.
and say. . .you're used to intel's easy simple way of installing processors(align golden arrow and thats it). . .so you think "ahh motherboard says Phenom II x4" I have a phenom II x4. . .sockets look pretty much the same. . .voila!

I like how you can tell they're two different sockets by reading. One says Socket 940 and the other says Socket AM3.
You should also note that Socket 940 is NOT the same as socket AM2. So you didn't even find a picture of an AM2 mobo.
Edit: I would also like to note that with Intel's introduction of the Core ix series on two different desktop sockets doesn't exactly make things clear either. You could buy a Core i7 and a "Core i7 ready" motherboard and the processor won't fit.

yes yes i know i just looked up "am2 socket" and am3 socket. . .

I know that new intel thing. . .
all the epic stories ive told about fighting windmills and saving women. . .they were all before the release of the ix series.
