So Ive set up some home networks in my past lives. . .all good they were simple tho, 2 computers running the same OS

so right now im trying to set up 4 computers (2 have vista, 2 have 7) i can connect the 2 windows 7 computers extremely easy (that homegroup thing)
but im trying to share the printer connected on one of the vista PCs. . .but Its weird. . .i can access a win 7 from the vista one but i cant access the vista one from the 7. . .
anyone know any workarounds? some software maybe?
recommendations?

google comes up with xp - vista, vista - vista, xp - xp
and the only thing i could find between 7 and vista was that vista doesnt have homegroup thing

The simples solution, change vista to w7 cuz vista lack of alot usefull things

Shearing and discovering:
Remamber to check if: Discover network is On
and Shearing printer is on too
I got 1 pc with vista and after reboot it reset those settings badly ;/ thats why i need to change it to w7

Why don't you set up the network using the Vista computers and have the 7 connect to that group. Making a group in 7 then trying to get vista to connect... either a pain in the ass, or won't work. (At least when I last looked into it)

I was able to get the vista computers to log into the 7 computers (asking name n password) but now whenever i try to get into shared folders from vista to vista it tells me that
//USER cannot be accessed. You may not have permission to access this service. Contact your network administrator
I talked to the network administrator (myself) but I couldnt get much help
The printer i want to share is hooked up to a vista pc (the 7's are laptops)

also from 7 to vista happens the same thing.
basically the vista computers are all bitchy while the 7's are friendly

I don't use printers myself at the moment, but I know that for folder sharing you'll have to right click a certain folder and add a user manually. Not sure if that'll work with printers too, since they aren't actually folders. I'm fairly sure what saspa said should work if the printer is set up right.

Also, if your Vista PC is running ZoneAlarm or a similar obstructive firewall, that might be the cause. I recommend testing with it turned off, and if it works you'll have to add your IP range into the allowed zones (x.x.x.0-x.x.x.254).

Ok 7 should be very similar to vista. I have done a printer setUp with xp and 7 with the priter connected to 7, it was pretty picky. *just make sure you don't say it's a network printer when going through the printer setup wizard.

Printer sharing is a different protocol from network printing.

Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup.

If network printing make sure you set a static ip for your printer.
 I don't have a w7comp anymore so that's pretty much all the suggestions I can make.
