Global Agenda (short review)
« on: February 07, 2010, 05:57:08 PM »
Started to play yesterday and it seems that this is an MMO for me. I was really found of Hellgate London and since they shut down their servers, I was looking for something similar.

Basically this was my problem, I wanted to play something that is MMO, but not a fucking traditional MMORPG for the unskilled nerds who will never get laid. the whole idea of targeting an enemy and then smash buttons 1-0 while barelly moving is disgusting to me. So now I finally found a game that proves that shooters can be MMO as well.

And god damn, it breaks all the rules! Levels mean little in this game as those at level 1 will have rougly the same health as level 30 and the only difference is a wider arsenal of toys that allows for better flexibility. In this game you run, aim, dodge and do everything else as in a 3rd person shooter. The whole damned game is running on Unreal Engine and that feels in a gameplay and graphics.

PVE.
Fuck PVE, the content there is so thin, you could say that those 4 missions (yes you heard me correctly) are only farming runs for the components which you use for crafting.

PVP.
This is where the game shines, PVP is based around agenices (guilds) that hold territories and wage wars with each other to capture all the territory. It's the daily battles that are done in teams of 10 vs 10 that is the essence of the "campaign" as you will not find any other form of "main quest" in this game.

Classes.
4 of them: assault, medic, recon and robotics. Currently I play medic and once again the game breaks the traditional role of a healer. In Global Agenda a medic has the potential on inflicting more damage than assault if played right. It may have something to do to them having all the biological weapons like poison grenades, pain guns, etc that make them the best DOT whore. I have yet to discover the full abilities of other classes.

Short summary:
In my opinion this game is kick ass, if you have recently been in "guilds", then you might be dissapointed when you try this game after hearing that it is an MMO. If your past gaming includes you being in a "clan", than you will feel at home when playing this. Also note, there is no distinction of servers, people play with good ping with each other all over the world, no separate servers.

So you are saying that the PvP system is similar to that of Chromehounds?

AKA: You have territories you have to conquer with your guildies and the more you collect, the more stuff you get? Now is it set territories and maps or is it open game?

I've been playing this game for a while now and I agree with everything Ace has to say from the paper thin PvE to the awesome PvP. PvE has 4 different difficulties, low, medium, high, and maximum. However, because they revolve around the same 10 or so maps it gets old after a while and only serves as a way to level up, get phat lewt, and practice for PvP. PvP is the real meat of the game with 10 vs 10 team gameplay with a variety of fun game modes.

While there are only 4 classes each of these can be setup in at least two ways. For example, a medic can spec themselves to be an extremely difficult to kill healer or a really annoying Aoe/poisoner. A recon can spec for melee to surprise buttsecks people or kill from afar with a rifle in two shots.

While I really think they nailed the PvP gameplay down I really would like to see the PvE aspect of the game fleshed out. I'll take it easy on the company (High Res) since it seems to be their very first game. However, I expect new content to be released within the next few months.

To answer Carnivus's question the community like many games varies and depends on your ability to find the right people to party with. However, I would say that it is better than average in terms of douchebaggery and people willing to help you. If you join up I'd be happy to show you the ropes :).

How is the community?I really think this makes up half of a MMORPG life.

Community of clans that where many of them have moved (or still playing) other FPS games. And since you mention "MMORPG life", I can assure you this game is not for you. Heh, good clans are so picky about recruiting... still wouldn't want to join any other.

AKA: You have territories you have to conquer with your guildies and the more you collect, the more stuff you get? Now is it set territories and maps or is it open game?
The conquest map looks like this:
(click to show/hide)
the map is opened for a specific time each day when clans try to capture each other territories. Otherwise they gain resources with those territories that they can build stuff with.

Viserroid, what's your nick in global agenda? Mine is Xmasbeer.
