@harpy - looking at the pics, it's the same here.

As for the salt freezing - if the temperature goes down enough, even water with salt will freeze, IIRC below -5 or -7 is enough.

Global Warming/Climate change will actually cause snow storms. Because of the increased energy in the atmosphere, it can cause it to snow in the Sahara and have a heat wave in Alaska. That is how climate change and global warming work. It causes extreme weather and climate shifts initially.  It doesn't just get 'hotter'.

Climate change is indeed happening, but whether it's caused by humans or not, remains to be seen.
Just a footnote; lots of snow and temperatures way below zero are normal in my part of the world. The previous couple of years with warm winters were, technically speaking, not normal.
Winters like this year were absolutely normal and noone made a fuss about it and called it a crisis.

In the winter of 1978/79 we had what is now called "the winter of the century". It was -30C during the day and there was so much snow that tunnels dug in the snow for trains, buses etc. were higher than said trains ;)

Yeah, we had some pretty heavy snow storms here in Oklahoma but recently haven't had anything. It's just been a bit cold and windy. I for one am ready from the spring season.

We had the most snow in one day ever here in Dallas on 2-12-10. It was great. School was cancelled for a few days too, so that combined with president's day made for a 5 day weekend.  :)

Lucky you. I still had to work. That sucked, especially driving in 10 inches of snow with a rear wheel drive truck. Oh well, shit happens. At least my job put me up in a hotel to make it easier.  ;D

I'm sick of the damned cold already and I don't even live anywhere where it gets cold enough to even become inconvenient.  I feel bad for you folks further north of me for having to deal with the Eskimo weather.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

The cold normally doesn't bother me, but it's a bit unusual to have two big snow storms only two to three weeks apart that made it hard to get around.

well now it makes sens that salt only made the ice problem worst :D It was -20 or so most of the time, now its getting warmer, its mostly something like -10 C and they promise that it will be -5 - 0 C.
Its not like we complain that it was so cold, hitting -30 from time to time during day and night more often, but darn its unpleasant anyhow. The thing we complain about is, that summer gets colder. Its like 1-2 weeks of really hot weather sometimes hitting +30 during the day and sometimes closing to that number during the the night, but then its so damp that its impossible to breath, that darn feeling that the storm is coming, but it never comes to relief the darn heat. And after that  its cold. I really miss warm summer nights :(

Agreed. I've heard them going outside my window at 00:00-03:00 recently... and though I am not a violent person, I have been ready to flip out if they didn't stop. *Laughs* It freaks the dog out too!

i hate snow. im originally from Ohio, where (as others from Ohio know) snow is quite common during the winter. but now, im in Jersey and for some odd reason, there is still snow on the ground from last week or so from our "record-breaking snow fall". i wish it would fucking melt already >_< i hate it. rumor has it were supposed to get more...ugh.

In Poland it's been >0 during the day for the past week, at it seems it'll stay that way. It's still below zero during the night, which means the snow is melting rather slowly(which is a blessing, if it started to melt very fast we'd get flooded).

Its starting to get >0 during the day here as well and the snow is melting rather slow, thou I don't think that will prevent us from getting flooded anyway. We get flooded every year, just this year this will be a bit worst then usually. Well I do not understand why they can not ship the darn snow somewhere outside the old city. The streets are flooded in some places already, in the the old city canal water level have been higher in last few years then before, and it looks like it will be even higher this year, not to even speak of what will happen to the river that runs through the city. Not to even speak about the regions a bit down from the city where the dar river will ruin and flood everything when the ice will start to break. Well I dont live there, and I kind of live in a safe zone, so I dont really care I just hope that the roads will not get to badly flooded...

... This topic is over a year old. I'm pretty sure we expected the weather to change in that time.
