Shared Server.
« on: February 11, 2010, 06:03:40 PM »
Howdy everyone.
Though I am very happy with BakaBt, I am though
very sorry to bother by asking a question on the forums.

It's more or less that I would want an advice, or maybe
push into a right direction in how to fix a matter at my hand.

I have set up a small server, where I have a rTorrent seeding
on BakaBt, all fine and well, that I am cunningly using to
try to seed with good speeds and all. But the problem at hand is
that I want to ask if I can give friends on this server availability
of also using BakaBt for co-op seeding and downloading (using our
two own accounts).

I do acknowledge that on the FAQ there is a point that says this.
" Can my friend/family member use his/her own account on the same computer as me?
This is highly discouraged, as the system will identify both of you as multi-account users. "

That's why I come to the forums for the question of what I should do.

The problem at hand is that none of us want to share our passwords and creating
a new account for the server would resolve in actually breaking this rule.

" How many accounts am I allowed to have?
One. Ever. You are only allowed a single account in your lifetime. What would you do with more than one account anyway? Users who are found with more than one account will have the newest ones disabled and warnings issued. Repeated attempts to create new accounts will result in permanent bans of all accounts from our site. "

So what is the right thing to do?
1) Keep it as it is, not allowing my friend to use BakaBt on the server.
2) Set up his rTorrent so he can use his own account, and in a shared pool of content
dodge that we cant download the same thing since they are trying to download
at the same rTorrent path, though seed already downloaded content.
3) Create a separate account for the server, and shareing it with my friend.

As you can see, I and quite perplexed in this and I would want to know what people
here on the forums think, or maybe, in best case an straight answer from a moderator
of BakaBt.

------------------------------------------

TLDR;

Server Stats:
Download speed  ~ 4Mb/s    (~ 4000kb/s)
Upload speed      ~ 1.4Mb/s (~ 1350kb/s)
HDD:                  ~ 400GB - For downloading and seeding storage.

Plan was: To share account server with friend so we can download
and seed stuff on BakaBt on my server it using or own, or a new account.
(Server is at a remote IP than mine - Since my home ISP is slower)

Problem: Rules in the FAQ that says:
NO multi-accounting on same PC.
NO second account.
Also:
I don't want to share my account information with anyone ever - even a friend.

Looking for: Help and advice on how to fix

That part of the faq is outdated, you'd essentially be running your own seedbox which is perfectly legit.

Well, I do think it isn't a problem since BakaBT's torrents aren't registered by IP, but passkeys in the torrents. So all you have to do is have your friend(s) download the torrents they want to seed while being logged in, make them give them to you, and then upload credit will be added to their own account.

I don't know if this answers your question.

Using it as a seedbox should be fine. I don't recommend using a seedbox though unless your ISP/parents/dorm is really crap.

Baby, I love the way you move

Thank everyone for your answers.

Sounds like I could do this then:
Give my friend a shell account to the Linux server, and let him use rTorrent on his own, having him adding the torrents he want to download / seed through the inbuilt fetcher when providing an HTML link to the torrent including passkeys and stuff.

And it sounds like it would be fine from the answers I have received here.

Don't wanna get banned by default ya' know. ;)

@Takeshi:
Don't wanna do some manual labour for HIS torrents you know.
When it's a server I rather let him add stuffs himself then. :)

Just make sure both of you don't log into the site from the server. (unlikely you'd even log in at all from it, but just trying to cover everything that could flag you)

Hmm, interesting, I wasn't aware of this change, though I always wondered how seedboxes wouldn't get banned from BBT.

Now I know. Duly noted.

Seriously? The Wiki says otherwise... >.>

From the FAQ:

This is highly discouraged, as the system will identify both of you as multi-account users.

no, the wiki does not.
there is quite a big difference between
- seeding a torrent with your private passkey from a shared seedbox (similar to the offer PCorner had once) = no problem
- and using your account (aka logging into the site, downloading the torrent files, etc) on a shared PC = problem

I just assumed that using your account also included downloading torrents using your account's passkey. Guess not, huh?
