Cable vs ADSL

<< < (2/2)

Xiong Chiamiov:
Cable has a tendency to have inconsistent speeds, although generally faster than dsl.  It depends on a lot on your particular isp, and where you are (apartment complexes seem to have more issues than houses).

kyanwan:
If you get cable - see if you can get your hands on a business grade line.   It's a little bit extra -  but - the support, the equipment, the speed - everything is bounds better.

If they say you need to be a business - say you're a telecommuter with vpn - and the residential line won't cut it for the vpn - you need a dedicated reliable connection, you're willing tp pay more.   ( Or just whip up a "home business" doing something or another. )

Then - when ya got the business cable - complain complain complain!

The connection where I am was shitty - I complained like mad for a while, and they found the line problems.  Fixed them - now the connection is the best I've ever had.

If you're a regular residential though - you'll NEVER get anywhere with support.   On the business lines - you connect right to a tier 2 support on your first call.   They don't have the cardreading morons working for their support.

Same here. ADSL2+ @ 20k/1k vs Cable @ 8k/1k + $500 install fee

Telstra offers a new 100k/1k cable service to my area.. but @ $300 a month... nty

Nikaido:
I don't know, like I said before I had 600-700kB/s download speeds with ADSL (local company) and since I was forced to switch to cable best I can get is 160-180kB/s. The cable speed is my ISP screwing me over w/ charging me  $20 more than the dsl (their using a thorny stick), so I don't know what to tell you. If you have a good cable ISP that has the higher levels of service I'd say go with them, but if your cable ISP sucks go with dsl.
