Halo ODST (and Reach too, double thread)
« on: February 16, 2010, 07:32:34 AM »
i just finally got ODST'
i got Halo 3 when it first came out, then i stop playing it when i started playin fighting games again.

after i watched the halo anime, i felt like gettin odst. so i did. plus i got the mythic maps so i saved some money.

and i think the story is really good. the gameplay is reminiscent to Halo:CE and its pretty hard, which is good to me.

the only downside IMO is the lack of matchmaking. which means you have to post on forums and make friends with others on the new maps to get any of the juicier achievements (Google:ODST vid master achievements).

overall i think the games around 8.8-8.9 outta 10.

if any of you have it we can play.

yeah i watched the Reach vidoc on youtube and Reach is gonna be the shit. i think it may be one of few games comparable to PS3 max  1080p graphics.

tatsujin thx!!( for nothin! ) thanks Sebur for the SIG!

I feel like I've been playing the same game since Halo.
The dual wielding aspect of Halo 2 never went well with me. Instead of having a powerful pistol that can kill you in 2-3 shots you instead end up carrying a plasma pistol and any other one handed weapon that would kill you even faster.
Halo 3 was nice with the devices you could use but I really wished there were more weapons you could use. After a few hours in multiplayer I got tired of using the battle rifle over and over and over again.
ODST was pretty fun co-op and its pretty challenging for survival mode. However, I really don't think it lasted anywhere near as long as it should have considering it cost ~60 USD.
I haven't read much about Reach but hopefully it'll be a nice deviation from the previous games. I want some new mechanics and gameplay aspects.

I loved Combat Evolved and my friends and I have had some pretty good times in 2 and 3's online multiplayer. ODST was okay, but I wouldn't throw down sixty bucks for it.

From what I've read it sounds promising. I'm not sure how I feel about the Needle Rifle though. I've always hated those damn needlers.

Needlers were always really fun to use in ODST and Combat evolved. Once they nerfed them, they sucked horribly. I mean, it already eats up the ammo like nothing. The fact it's so weak... pointless.

Needlers are mighty when you are medium range and get all of the needles to hit. I never used them much in Halo CE but usually pick them up in ODST since they are a great way to take out a brute on legendary survivor mode. They eat up ammo like none other but most of the time it's a guaranteed kill against real players and not.
Halo CE will probably always have a special place in my heart since I remember sleeping over night at friend's houses in middle school duking it out 2v2 on blood gulch.

I remember joining needler-only matches in Halo 2. Sixteen players all constantly firing dual-wielded needlers at the same time really has an impact on frame rate.

I always sucked at Halo 2 because I could never remember where the weapons would spawn. I'd be stuck running around with POS weapons until someone had the courtesy remove my soul with a rocket launcher.

Dual needlers were the reason why they nerfed them. I agreed that the pistol needed nerfing, but the needlers did not. It was always sort of like one of those weapons you quickly grabbed to quickly take out something, but you'd have to chuck it soon after you used it.

I'd always wish for a needler in Halo CE when I was stuck in the library level on legendary getting over run by the little squids. That level scared the crap out of me as a kid. Leaping zombies with shotguns were ball breaking.

I used the SG on them. Needlers were more for the snipers and whatnot.

ODST is one of the easiest games I've played to date. Legendary solo isn't even a challenge.

yeah, Reach will have new game mechanics.

i really wanted to get ODST after i watched the Halo Legends anime.

I didnt throw down 60 USD i threw down 40$ USD for the game + i only had legendary and heroic maps. so i saved some bread.

one downside overall to halo is the weapon balance. All competetive play weapons are the same. Halo: CE = PISTOL , Halo 2 glitches + Battle rifle, Halo 3 - Battle Rifle (and maybe a shotgun but pretty much battle rifle).

any time you look at a game that has an online aspect there is typically going to be 1 thing that is used more and better at a large aspect of the game.
So for a shooter im not sure why anyone would expect there to be any kind of good weapon balance.

have you guys actually played halo?  Granted a lot of the noobs seem to think a battle rifle can kill anything, but I consistently win with any weapon i use, be it a smg, sniper rifle or a plasma rifle. (my favorite combo is a smg+plasma rifle) I find the weapons to be very balanced, and if you dnt think so you can jsut make a custom game and disallow whatever you think is overpowered...or play in forge and kill everyone by dropping tanks on their heads :)
