FF VIII - Actually a very good story?
Aneroph:
Lol this reminds me of the Pokemon psych paper that I read. It claimed that in the first season of Pokemon when Ash is hit by lightning he actually falls into a coma, and the rest of the series takes place inside of Ash's sub conscience. It was actually quite brilliantly written and included things like Brock being the inward sexual frustrations of a growing Ash, but since he had never experienced a woman before Brock was always doomed to fail. Wish I could find it again. I have a friend that pasted it to his Myspace long, long ago, but he wouldn't appreciate me sending tons of random interneters to it.
Anyways, about the FFVIII theory: anything can make sense like this if you dig deep enough. It's a little like picking apart poetry to find the hidden meanings of the author. Sure it could all make sense, but who the hell cares? They didn't come out and say it, the story doesn't lose or gain anything by looking at it from this view, and there is no benefit to believing this theory. The storyline in all FF games are crazy, confusing, and weak.

You know, that thing you had as a kid that allowed you to play with figurines for hours on end.

Death in battles is usually explained as just being "down," like exhausted or injured to the point where combat is impossible.

Yes because Phoenix downs and 'Life' spells are obviously only bringing characters back from exhaustion ::)

That's the rationale - injured, exhausted, or unconscious. Take it or leave it.

I always envisioned battles as being like exaggerated alternate versions of how it really happens (i.e. your char cuts off the enemy's head in one chop, battle over).
