If you had to lose one limb, which one would you lose?
« on: February 18, 2010, 07:55:51 AM »
It is almost a tie between my left arm and my left leg.
If I lose my left leg driving stick would be hard and moving around would be a pain. If I wanted to exercise I'd probably be stuck to the bicycle or swimming pool. However, I'd still be able to work an office job, game, and eat easily. Left leg it is.

Chose right leg. Leg prosthetics are pretty good afaik, whilst losing a whole arm can be moderately crippling. I don't drive, so that's not a big issue, but I don't see that should be a factor. There are modifications possible.

Yeah :(. It's hard to prioritize one part of yourself over another. It is more or less lose-lose. But at least if you get trapped in a room by Jigsaw you'll know what to saw off first xD.
If you drive automatic you'll be fine. But I want to buy a nice car someday and enjoy the road :). Manual makes driving more interesting. Also, not being able to play flag football or soccer (football for everybody else in the world :P) would be tough.

Right leg. Purely for the fact that its easy to get a replacement for a leg but not an arm and I put all my weight on my left leg when I stand... not playing soccer would suck though. Plus if I get bored I can just have one of those electric wheelchairs....WEEE EEE!

left arm
would still be able to move easily
primarily right handed orientation
powered prosthetics are available, while not as dexterous as the original, still useful...and may be subject to tweaking for more power :) (cue toolman laugh ar, ar ,ar) or at least could be used as a design template for a higher output design.

thinking about...hmm...super strong left arm (goes to find hacksaw) >.<

And you're the one accusing me of virginity?  :P

I guess I'd lose a leg, as mentioned prosthetics are getting quite functional, and people still ski with one leg. The dexterity of the hand can't be replaced.

After intense focus and concentration, (meditation)
Contemplating my current situation and future expectation

Yes, my attempt to make an awesome poem failed -_-

In any case I have concluded: left leg it is.

I can still pwn all you non crippled people at first person shooters, whilst still being labeled a cripple...
(click to show/hide)
However, I do love acrobatics, but losing any limb wound would seriously hamper that anyway...

I don't understand how anybody could value a leg higher than an arm... Seriously can't get it into my head.

Left Leg for me.

I couldn't stand not being able to move from place to place easily.
So I'd choose my left arm. Losing it wouldn't terrible limit my options.
It would be the least llimiting option to movement.

I could still walk and bike. Run and ski to some extent too.

What would I lose? FPS gaming, most shooting, most fishing...nothing much else. Not so bad.

Because we can!

Lol, try and spend a day just using your right arm and hand, I'll spend a day limping about the place (cos that's the big difference there'd be to my current life, the speed at which I get from A to B). You're not going to be able to do ANYTHING the way you usually would, because our hands are our primary influence on our immediate surrounding.

The fact that you think not being able to play football will have a bigger impact on your life than not being not being able to function like a normal human being in everyday life stupifies me.

One minor question: Is the lose above or below the knee/elbow? (doesn't affect my answer, but might others in regards to prosthetics).

My right arm is my "doing" arm.
My left arm is my "carry" arm.
My right leg is my "kicking" leg.
My left leg is ... dead weight.

I have done that. Broken my right arm once. Spent a few weeks only using my left. Wasn't that bad of an experience.

It isn't about playing football or something like that. It's about losing freedom. You won't be able to get to places by your own anymore. You'll be stuck at home and rot. Talk about not being able to function like a normal human being when you can just roll around in a wheelchair...

Because we can!

I'm missing my left ACL so left leg. Even if I wasn't I'd choose it.

I use both my arms daily and there is no substitute for arms. I use my legs daily as well, but I could do with just a prosthetic. As for which leg, when you drive, you use your right foot for gas and break. If my right ACL was missing instead, I would still choose my left leg.

I'm thinking about getting metal legs... It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.
