But is is a sad thing to have to have significantly damaged your s9 thingy.

Ah, sorry to start makes this topic derail.
Based on experience on my player such drop should be nothing, especially on s9 which are known to its durable screen.
I've experienced several similar impact before on my player. I always put my player on table when listening to it, when I get up to go somewhere else, I just keep forgetting the earphone is still attached on my ears and start dragging forcefully from table it until it fly and falling hard on cement floor. :P

But this one..  you accidentally 'smash' it or what? ???

Nope it was a drop. I was as surprised as you because until that time the screen was very durable and unscratchable, I even tested it with a box cutter :P

It's still glass. Scratching isn't an issue.... but Cracking might be.
