A somewhat of a crazy idea occurred to me, nutty enough I wasn't sure it would belong in Site Feedback or Lounge. Well, considering how unfeasable it is...
Perhaps triggered by having contemplated
the issue of saturation of the Naruto torrent at the current peer levels, or perhaps for some other strange reason, but here it is...;
Buy an official anime product, get upload credit
....
....
...
... I'm kidding...right?
...right??
Well, let's think, you know, activate those gray cells up there. At least hear me out...
A user has a bakabt account (of course, this could apply to any tracker of this kind)
-has downloaded or wants to download something, but is having trouble/getting concerned about getting ratio back on track

Choices: Good points/bad points
#Longterm seeding:
Eventually if you wait enough and seed 24/7, you are bound to seed back. Might be problematic if it takes a year...
#Bonus points:
Works over time (and the backbone of keeping the obscure material here seeded), though you'll have to keep track of the list as amount of seeders vary...
#New torrent additions:
Actually a good way to keep ratio. But you'll need to have acquired knowledge of the anime scene enough to find the material before it appears here, you'll do a lot of swithing of active torrents, and will probably need good... no, large...no, humongous, amount of harddrive space to keep ajour with the material to have it at hand.
#Uploading:
Being initial seeder will DEFINITELY boost your ratio. But, you have to know upload guidelines, work on the description, find feasable material... Certainly helps if you're a main member of a sub group. Though you'll need a good ratio beforehand to apply to power user status...
#Popular torrents:
Searching by the leeching tab on Browse gives alternatives, as well as popular franchises as Code Geass, Naruto, Bleach (doesn't always work, ie Naruto)
#Public key:
Works, but might make you feel like a cheater. Also, you don't get upload stats either, and might miss a swap or two... Besides, what's the point of registering in this case?
#Donation Drive:
As per the rules established when Box changed to BakaBT, it's rather limited capacity...
#Seedbox:
Needs technical know-how, also adds to the problem of overseeding
But...what...if
An anime publisher makes an agreement with an anime tracker...
-to deploy a system which allows a registered user on the tracker to gain upload credit to an amount proportional to the value of a purchased item (whether it be anime/manga/figurine/ost etc), after proving the purchase by some means (code included in the packaging etc)
Implementation/good points/drawbacks
+ The company in question would get extra sales which otherwise it would not have
-(+) The bump in ratio for users who go on a purchasing drive would lower the incentive of them to seed, but considering the size of the userbase, and the overseeding problem...Still, having a tracker in balance is a walk on a razor-blade, if something rocks that...
- Adding the upload bump into the overall ratio would possibly make the company accessory to commit copyright infringement of other companies as well, even if indirectly. And it would probably be unfeasable to apply only to its own property/unlicensed...
? Would there be some kind of note on level of support by purchase, on the material associated with the company, or otherwise?
? Perhaps instead freeleech on torrents associated with the company for a time/amount (though to implement that on user level might be problematic...)
+ Probably better than adding a yet another seedbox...
- Companies not present (like Funi) would have to be omitted from the system
+ User can buy one product, and use the extra upload to download something completely different. Makes great way for trying out something new either way
- A lot of companies/products are not widely available there on the marketplace, this would not generate any surplus for them
- Different regions (R1, R2 etc) would make it problematic for some users to take advantage of this system, especially outside R1...
? How would the terms for such an agreement look like. In worst case scenario it might put the anime tracker in question in hot water at some point...
- Too many license issues, and the Japanese would stone wall it. Absolutely.
- The company would basically incite the infringement of its own ip property by its own customers, try selling that idea...
- It could be seen as unfair because not all users would be able to take advantage of this (lack of money etc)
In overall, the negatives spell against this idea, so most likely it's not implementable in any way or form (well, we can dream...)
But the one thing that really, really scraps this;
NO WAY ANY COMPANY WOULD COMMIT TO SUCH UNHOLY ALLIANCE, NOT BEFORE ALL HELL FREEZES OVER AND EARTH IS TURNED ASUNDER AND THE FAT LADY HAS SUNG
... at least if it's a publishing company
