Don't judge a TV based on it's brightness in the store. They set the brightness way too high to try to stand out over the fluorescent lighting and all the other TVs.
Has anyone heard about how sometimes they adjust contract/brightness in older models to make them "seem similar" to newer models and either upsell certain attributes of sell an older model more frequently to increase profits? They sometimes do this against comparable brands... but generally brands will do this themselves normally as "default" settings to have more "difference" to other brands when compared to "push the sell". I think Aquos does this the most, but I'm not an expert in this topic. I think it was mentioned in the other TV threads.
http://miniprice.ca/image/product/450004.jpgIs what I use on my desktop. It doesn't go up to 1080p like you asked but its still a fantastic monitor. A good Dynex 32" screen, pretty much any kind of connector you could want, I have my PS2 and Dreamcast hooked up to it plus my desktop, no dead pixels good warranty. Remote is easy to figure out and not heavy at all. I liked this TV so much I got a second one.

Because unlike tube tvs they dont have any room to put in real speakers that project a OK sound for a tv speaker
