Bleach and Inuyasha... should I start watching?
(1/1)
Arinox:
Hi, I've been an anime lover for a while, and although I've seen a glimpse or two of the newer shounen hits like Bleach, Inuyasha, FMA and Naruto, I've only really gotten to like FMA, since it was a bit more intelligent than the others (or at least, that's the image I got). Now that I've run out of good anime to watch, I've decided to try out Bleach and Inuyasha (take note that I'm a more 12/26 episode anime kind of guy who enjoys good romance and dislikes plotholes... that being said, this is the reason why I've avoided typical shounen fare, and went for mostly seinin or niche animes)
Inuyasha, I believe, is in its final season, So I can finally start watching that, but Bleach is 14 seasons and still going strong... this is nice, but also a bit daunting for me to contemplate: That's a hefty bandwidth and HDD space investment. Especially since most of the seasons in Bleach are 30+ episodes each.
So any suggestions on whether I should go and try it out? Or should I just avoid it and consider it another naruto (which I really, really don't like)?
What got me interested in Bleach is because I really, really enjoyed Busou Renkin, because it was shounen (along with all its trappings, illogical hidden powers brought forth by the power of heroic will and frienship) but also because it was self-parodizing... it didn't try to hide that it copied mercilessly and made fun of the genre, so I ended up enjoying the romance all the more. And it has a HAPPY ENDING!!!!
So if I liked Busou Renkin, would I like Bleach? Or should I just stay away? Thank you.

The first arc of Bleach is definitely worth watching (episodes 1 till 63), the fillers following it aren't that much worth it and the story never goes to the same peak as that first arc but if your hooked you'll like the canon episodes following too. You won't be disappointed by the first arc, it's imo high quality, and if you still wanna go on just skip the filler arc's (S3 & S4 The Bount, S9 The New Captain Shusuke Amagai and S13&14 Zanpakuto Unknown Tales)

A lot of people like Bleach for the same reasons they hate Naruto. Bleach manages to keep a bit of action in each episode, and even the filler isn't pointless. However, I found it a bit of a slog and unfulfilling once I finished the first plot arc. After you watch enough episodes in quick succession, the formula becomes pretty obvious. So I dropped it.
I've seen maybe thirty scattered episodes of Inu Yasha over however many years, so I'm not the best judge. But Inu Yasha is pretty old school, not far removed from Dragon Ball. The plots are usually predictable: the heroine in distress; the spiny love between the two main characters that moves at glacial speeds; seemingly unbeatable foes that are suddenly defeatable after jumping another Super Saiyan level. In the later seasons a lot of the plot gets delegated to a myriad of supporting characters.
But, Inu Yasha is a classic that a lot of people enjoy. The first season isn't bad.
If you're looking for something shorter, maybe check out Wolf's Rain (created by some key people who made Cowboy Bebop, and an awesome score by Yoko Kanno). It's full of action, might be what you're looking for.

It would be hard to remember my younger years with out getting blazed/drunk in the woods and coming home and watching Inuyasha every night on [as]. Now that it's being released again, it's slowly moving back up my list.
I like Bleach as well. I don't think they ever recaptured how kick ass the first 3 seasons were, but, there are some pretty awesome moments to the show. Also, some of those fights were just dying for animation.
