Battlefield Bad Company 2

I found in BF2 and 2142 people used to run around like maniacs with sniper rifles and just drop to prone and shoot you from 10 feet away.
Finally able to play multiplayer, after uninstalling/reinstalling.... I'd have to agree the lack of 64 player servers is a pretty big downfall, but it's still better than 18.

Actually running like crazy and dropping down is real life tactic in military as well, not on short distances like you said, but still it's more realistic because soldiers are taought to go to prone in most cases because that is the position from which you handle your weapon the best and because it's harder to hit you. Besides snipers that do that are noobs, that tactic doesn't stand a chance against good players.
Also why do people mention BF 2142? It's a shameful chapter of DICE history that should only be reffered to as "you know what", "that game" "the thing we are not supposed to speak about" ;D

Because I liked it? The vehicles were a bit meh, but gibraltar with no vehicles or similar maps were fun.

I never went prone anyways. Who cares.
I picked this up day after release. I've been WAITING FOREVER for Bad Company on PC. BF2 - first real damn good modern (eg: not WW2) and "realistic" (as in: real weapons) shooter for the pc - was my favorite shooter ever.
Other titles - CoD for example ... they're OK but ... I don't know ... it's just something.
Vehicles - if you complain about vehicles - learn how to kill them. There's nothing to complain about. If you need to play on a "no vehicles server" - you don't know how to play.
( Sorry, but it's true. I hated vehicles at first too ... but every vehicle has a weak spot. Ever 1/2 shot a tank? Yeah. They have weak spots. Learn em. )

What I do know so far - is I like this a HELL OF A LOT more than CoD MW2 - which imo - sucks a fat one. If you want to talk about unrealistic ... man, that game blows chunks. BC2 bounds better.

There was something wrong with 2142 - I can't quite put my finger on it. It may have been a bit too complex. I liked it - played it a lot - had everything unlocked ... but there was just something about it.
Vehicles were no prob for me - I'd just blow the shit out of them ... but the game got boring for some reason. It wasn't like BF2 - where you could just keep on going for a good while - and still love the game.

The biggest problem I have with this game is that it crashes a lot. When it loads a new map it is a coin flip if I lose the connection or not, when I start the server browser it is a coin flip if it will ctd without error, when tabbing it crashes to desktop more often than not.
I did manage to play 3 hours in a row on a server near where I live prior to the game getting cranky again. I don't have the connection problems in any other game I'm playing. :/
Viseroid:
I've put a lot of hours into this game. What a great game, too bad there are so many problems playing online :-/
I've never played a game where suddenly the server just throws people out of the game and then you have to wait 5 minutes to several hours before the online aspect of the game worked again. Then if you're lucky the next server won't throw you off until you get a few decent rounds in. It has been about a week now since release and these random server hiccups still happen. Really wish they'd fix this stuff soon.
Gameplay-wise this game is fantastic. I love the explosions, the destruction, the vehicles, and the maps. The weapons are numerous and you have lots of them to choose from. Unfortunately, some of the weapons become completely obsolete after you unlock the later ones. The single player so far is pretty "meh". The AI is really finicky and getting them to go where you want them to is like flying a kite in a tornado. However, it is still fun, just not MW2 singleplayer fun. The single player for MW2 was moronic from a political standpoint and really over-the-top; that's probably why it was so awesome :P. Too bad it was so short. The best all around single player I've had in an FPS was probably Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
I guess my verdict is if you don't have a Battlefield game yet or are looking for a good game with vehicle combat you should pick it up. However, you won't find too many differences from the other BF games in terms of multiplayer. Other than that you aren't missing anything revolutionary like Portal.
