« on: March 03, 2010, 10:03:55 PM »
Yea so i need something that will allow me to load my entire music library into it and play it all nice without crashing alot.

Currently have tried winamp and jetaudio both crash on me ALOT windows mediaplayer would work fine but its a MASSIVE fucking program and i hate the design on the newer versions.

Also winamp will randomly not play some of the music i have usually my flac files it just dont like them.

Unfortunately sometimes Winamp wants you to download a plugin for FLAC to work. I used to use Winamp and still do sometimes but foobar2000 is my favourite for now. Does everything I want and does it well so its perfect for now.

I would recommend foobar2000 as well.

foobar2000?
End of discussion.
+1

I usually just use MPC-HC for single tracks or complete albums, but I think I might be using Foobar2k more. It's one hell of a program for transcoding as well (my main reason for using it).

The only thing winamp does that foobar doesnt(other then it looks "nicer") is put music onto a ipod.
But then you just use Floola. ;) I sure as hell don't want either Winamp nor iTunes on my laptop...

If you do need the Ipod compatibility, then consider MediaMonkey. CNET gave it an incredibly glowing review, and it is my personal favorite

Foobar described in one sentence: Extremely barebones but customizable system which lets the music speak for itself and allows you to organize and properly tag your library without the headache other more mainstream players will give you

Also, Songbird might be worth downloading. I only recently started using it, but I am already loving how customizable it is, and all of the features it has.

Mgz doesn't use foobar? SHOCKE!

I hear songbird is good. At least on Linux it seems to be one of the nicer ones.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

I've used Winamp since it came out, so I'm pretty accustomed to it... I've never used any of the album organizing things or anything though (experimented maybe, but I don't really use those features). I actually have my folders themselves organized so I don't have a problem finding anything.

I tried iTunes at one point and hated it... after using Winamp the way I do for so long, it was really hard to find anything with libraries like that.

I only play mp3's, but... Winamp has never crashed on me... ever.

Foobar's interface is highly customizable, given you're willing to spend some time on it. If not, premade profiles are quite abundant.

Just 4 hour ago I was trying Foobar, after finds out that it support uPNP.
But for an unknown reason(maybe i missed something), it remove all my tagging, including album art. leaving only song title, artist and album name. ???
Over half-thousand my 2-year-worth-of-effort, properly-tagged mp3 files was put into 'default' state in a minutes. :'(
daymnit! I'll never touch that software again.

You must have done something wrong, because you can't 'accidentally' remove the tags from all your files in one go.

2 years ?

Do you use a hammer and a chisel to tag your files ?

I ripped everything I have for convenience's sake, which amounts to nearly 50K files. Even if I had to retag everything from scratch, it wouldn't take more than a couple of hours.
Then again, just like Tiffanys said, a proper storage structure makes things much easier, 1 folder per artist, 1 sub-folder per album.

2 years.. not i mean it takes such time just to tag those files, but it was 2 years ago when I started to tag those mp3's properly, such as album art, composer(if any), etc.

after some recheck the cause is identified. It was replay gain(scan per-file track gain) that cause foobar to wipe my whole tag.
Yeah, I do some gain analysis to normalize the volume. But why remove whole tag? why don't just update the gain correction metadata like other player?
On some of my file it still randomly leave some important info such as artist or song title or both of them, while on other file it completely remove the tagging information.

I'm using audioshell as my mp3 tagger though.
