what is the simplest way to edit subtitle in a mkv or mp4 container ?

I just do not need to make it in professional way
I need a simple way to edit the subtitles in a mkv or mp4 containers or even delete the subs or replace them with other subs
I am not a pro so please the simplest way !

mkvextract + mkvmerge + notepad

Possibly even easier is, you can file-> Open subtitle and click on the mkv file in Aegisub, which is a program designed to create and edit subtitle files.
