with out the catalogs bonus, you have a 5% chance to get one. Meaning 1 in 20 kills, you should after getting the first one be able to kill one every 5-6mins. Meaning 1 trap every 2 hours or so. Of course lady luck can be a bitch.

It's 1% without the catalog and 5% with it when you 5 star the battle.  I could kill one every 3-4 minutes at first and later on it took about 2 or so.  I still killed over 70 of those damn things b4 I got my first one.  Thankfully, the Ingots are 33% with the catalogs....which is less tedious but still very time consuming since it takes a lot of gil to max the weapon.....and you have to do it more than once, unless you're very lucky.

5% with out a catalog, then * 1.5 more with it, im to lazy to do the math.

You are thinking of Long Guis.  Adamantoises and Adamantortoises only have a 1% drop rate for traps without the catalogs.  Long Guis on the other hand have a 5% drop rate, but are a lot harder to kill.

Minor spoilers I guess:

(click to show/hide)The game's major weakness is the bad pacing.  I didn't really mind the story pacing that much, but I hated how they limited you so much with the battle system.  You can only level this far at this point because we say so....no logical reason whatsoever.  Heck, you're still even limited when you reach the final boss.  Took me about 20 hours just to enjoy playing with the battle system.

Characters are a mixed bag overall.  All become tolerable at the end, but some are really annoying during the first half of the game.  Most of the story was focused on the main characters' development and thus the villains were extremely weak in this game.  Snow was my favorite character, then Sahz.  Sahz would have probably been my favorite had he not become completely invisible story wise at the end of the game.  Story was OK overall.  Much better than XII at least and it kept my interest the whole time.

Post game is pretty boring IMO.  The only thing you can really do is marks/hunts and max your characters out.....which is a pain in the ass.  I Spent like 10 hours farming those fucking turtles to get a single trap (with a pitiful 1% drop rate, 5 % with certain equipment) that allows you to upgrade to an ultimate weapon.....and then I needed 5 more. >_>  I could kill them pretty easily later on, but damn they are annoying at first.  Overall I found the post game more frustrating than fun.

This guy is so right. That's exactly how I felt... When the weird really slow at first and then too fast at the end story finished, the post-game was really boring. Game was beautiful though, and I liked the character development quite a bit. Contrast this to me playing FFXII, which was basically picking up the controller for twenty minutes and then never touching the game again. What a disappointment :'(

Overall, I'd say 8.5/10. It's the beautiful graphics that give it a nice boost^^
